New pony with pics - showing advice needed

I went to see someone the other da and unexpectedly came back with three ponies (although only two are staying the other is going back he only came as his pal is toitally unhandled)

I don'y have photos yet of the two year old partbred welsh I have got - he's unhandeed but sweet and rose grey in colour.

But I also came back with Roy who is a welsh sec A by Trefaes Orange Pip.

He is a rig at the moment and will be gelded within the next two weeks but thought I'd put some pics on to see if anyone thought he had what it takes to show in hand and possibly in lead rein classes? (he's still in his winter woolies at the mo)

Any comments welcome eventing is usually more my thing so I know not much about welsh sec A's!! - also what would I need to do prep wise to show him i.ie how long should his mane be etc.

What a pretty little man! I don't know anything about showing but I do think he's very nice and I reckon you would be in with a chance with him......lovely xx
 
He is stunning! And has some amount of bone for a Welsh A! It depends what level of showing you want to do as to what you do with his mane. If only local level then leave it as is, I like it. If you plan on going county and qualifiers then pull it - not short like a plaited mane - so it's 7-9in's long depending on how thick his neck is. A shorter mane will give the impression of a bigger neck.
 
I know apparently his bone might count against him.

He'll be doing local level to begin with I thought and then I'd see how he got on, I'll leave him au naturel for his first few outings.

I now have to try and teachhim to trot up without breaking hmmm .....

One thing I have to mention is that you do know that you cannot actually geld a Rig don't you? A Rig is a gelding with a retained testicle, the only way you can remove the testicle is by invasive surgery. Are you sure he is a Rig and not a Colt/Stallion?
 
Oh WOW I love him !!!! What a character - he's fab :D

I really,really hope that no-one sends this to the picture gallery - seems to be happening a lot lately, and we do love our piccies, don't we ;)

My sentiments too- a lot of the show ponies I've seen over the past few weeks have had no bone whatsoever, I too like a pony with good substance and it's been nice to see this sort doing well so far this year.

Thank you yes I discussed it thoroughly with my vet before taking him on. The other two year old is a colt and when he gets gelded ghe's going to have a look at Roy and see where his other testicle is.

I see what you mean re the rig description which is probably misleading. I meant he only has one testicle.
 
I'll keep you updated on his progress. I'm going to have to swat up on showing.

(I am secretly looking forward to it though)
