Now I am thinking this could be a great bit of kit for horses such as Boss who deer leap when you try and hold them - he is good in a Kineton but obv that doesnt come into play untl you are pulling on the rein - this seems kinder to me, no poll pressue that *could* cause leaping, etc

Negs are that poss you dont have anything of a good thing, the signals could be muted and some may say "just use a hackamore"

LOL. There are pics on the pdf file. I can read the file...but it'll have to stay on my laptop forever....shutting it down is a big no no. LOL

it makes me think hackamore to be honest so wouldn't want it in hands of novice unless there was elastic within strap to noseband. could be useful though to give a bit of nose pressure to encourage horse to lower head without going to a proper hackamore

Thankies!

Urmmmm not convinced - the Aussie trainer intimated that it took a whilte to get the right tension........

Sorry Duck, not convinved!

I don't agree with the statement that it's good for novice hands (their statement, not yours!) - the nose is no less sensitive to unsympathetic pressure than the mouth. You wouldn't put a novice rider together with a hackamore, would you?!

With regard to it helping Boss - it may well do for the reasons you've explained, although I'd be nervous to use it hunting for example as the noseband will restrict the use of the bit (depending on how you set it, obviously). If you set it so you could firmly use the bit in an emergency, then it pretty much negates the use of the gadget, if you see what I mean. For 'exciting' situations, I'd probably opt for a milder bit & a stronger noseband (kineton is probably your best bet, like you say). OR, some sort of combination bit with 2 reins - i.e. that you'd typically see the SJ's using.

mmmm, this looks pretty good - perfect for a horse like Ty who overbends in a hackamore but needs an even distribution between bit and nose to stop him panicking about the bit......

Yep I totally agree that the wording on the site is VERY odd - no way would I allow anyone that cannot rde from the seat anywhere near a hackamore! Like I said, although the idea is there I do think thats its neither one thing or another and would be muted and dfficult to get the adjustment correct, which could end up wth you ultimately pissing the horse off completely and getting yourself in LOTS of bother LOL!

I think on balance if I needed something like this I would just buy a combination bit and adjust it to suit the needs of the particular horse..speaking as somebody whose horses only put on a noseband for special days out and are schooled usually entirely without one

Only prob wth combination bits is that most of them DO have poll pressure and that is the one thing that I am trying to get away from and something I think a lot of horses would benefit from NOT having

It look sort of like a combination of a scrawbrig and a snaffle bridle (I could be wrong, its a bit fuzzy on my pooter!). Not something I'd use, but I like the idea of taking pressure away from the mouth and distributing it over the nose too (same reason I like the myer combos). To me it looks like something to use so novices don't haul on their mouth, but on their nose too lo
