Getting my new puppy tomorrow - anyone got any first day tips for me??? Think I am pretty prepared - but want it to be as stress free for her as possible!!
She is absolutely gorgeous!!!
My (boy) Patterdale Terrier fancies her already!!!
Cute! Take some more pics please, love to see more of her!!
Sorry dont have any tips though!!! Im useless I just spoil mine so he walks all over me!!!
yes LOADS!! But im a bit thick and cant put them on here!!!
He's the one in my avater tho if you can see it?? or if you have an email address I can send them to that?!! Thats about as far as my knowledge with computers can be stretched!!!
No real advice.. apart from let her explore and have fun - take a blanket that you can rub on mum/dad when you collect her and travel her in/on that.. then put it in her bed - it'll help her feel secure as there will be a familiar smell.... also perhaps a heat pad - Finn loved his and settled very well when he was warm and snuggly!!!
Brill thanks - I actually took a blanket the last time I saw them so she will have the smell on, and I have a hot water bottle at the ready - got the crate, got toys, just trying to make the house puppy proof!! Am very excited!!
awww, she looks just like my little terrier did at that age!!
shes lovely!!
i always use a dog crate for my pups (had 4 various pups over years now all grown up though
)
i usually place in kitchen with at least one of my other dogs in kitchen as well, put a lovely thick blanket or towel or even better an item of old clothing which you have worn but not washed that way it smells like you and will comfort her when your not there, and some news paper for mopping up the pee.
the cage also stops the chewing of furniture as one of my pups before the cage destroyed a new fitted kitchen for me!
my other tip is for a dog to stick with you no matter what, tie it to your belt with a thin lead or just a bit of string (bale twine is great!!) just the right length so its not getting round the pups paws all time, then just get on with daily jobs like mucking out etc and totally forget about her, first few times you move she wont and you'll end up tugging her but you would on a lead any way, after a bit she'll learn when you move so does she and volia! one heal trained dog. it worked a treat with my lot and i dont bother with leads on yard etc,
mind you this works until your other half teaches her to rabbit like mine did then your dog will be perm down a rabbit hole but still at least you know where she is lol.
i also carfeully used to walk her at side of horses when turning out etc and now i can ride out along bridle paths etc and dog walks at side of horse no hassle from dog or horse.
one last thing
enjoy her while she is a pup as they grow up so fast.
cat x
Yes she is called Pickle!! She has just arrived and I am watching her every movement - terrified she will find something that may do her harm - even though I have checked for everything!!
She has just had her tea and wolfed it down! She is sitting on my lap and trying to get on the table where my computer is at the moment!!!
