New puppy!

We've got a new puppy at the yard, she is a 6 month old German Shepherd (long haired) and she will be my company at the yard in the evenings and a guard dog.

But she is VERY nervous at the moment and quite scared of everybody, B bought her off some travellers as he felt sorry for her, think she may be pregnant too

she is lovely though, hopefully with their 4 other confident dogs she will soon come round and realise that no one will hurt her.

Well B's daughter is a vet nurse so i expect she will have taken her to work today to get her checked out.

Puppy is lovely i wanna take her home but my mother however not impressed with that idea.

That's good she can get her checked out. My mother would be exactly the same, I would have way too many dogs but she made me stop at one

She is so cute. Have claimed her as mine lol, will see her again on Weds eve so will try to take some photos then.

We also have 2 evil cats so not sure how they'd be if a dog appeared too. However if she does have pups then i think i would have to take one home no matter what my mother says!

Aah bless her, sounds like she has had a bad start. Hopefully she will gain confidence from the other dogs, but she could really do with being properly socialised, e.g. training classes. A nervous GSD can sometimes become aggressive as a means of defense which is not a good thing. Hopefully she is not in whelp, 6 months is very young for a bigger breed to have had a season, but would agree that its quite likely the vet will suggest aborting the pups if she is, depending on how far in whelp she is.
 
B's daughter did say that she thinks if puppy was going to snap at anyone she would have done it by now because she was terrified when they took her in to bath her. She squished herself behind the toilet, not sure quite how she managed that. Poor thing its awful really she was just sitting in the corner by the Aga looking at everyone and i stroked her and made a fuss of her but she didn't move a muscle.

One of the other dogs was rescued from travellers too and he was a similar age but a JRT type and he's come round fine, he's lovely happy (but seriously naughty!) dog now so hopefully we wiill do the same for her.

No we are not sure that is just from looking at her, she is not skinny and she has quite big teats so thats why we thought maybe pregnant but should know for sure by time i see them on Weds.
 
Aww just heard she has settled in a bit now (got her Sat afternoon) and is playing with the other puppy (well he must be 1yo now) who also came from travellers. Will be funny when she's fully grown cos he's smaller than y our average JRT!
 
Just take it slowly with her, let her come to you if she wants attention.

Again I'd also recommend being careful that the nerves may not be aggressive at the moment, but it can change if she feels threatened.

Dont make eye contact as that can be threatening to a dog. I'd also take her to classes etc.

I know some good dog forums if you want advice.
