just posted this in soap box too but I'm soon(ish) looking for a new puppy but not sure what I want breed-wise. Just after something with a good temprament, good with kids and isn't too big but isn't mini either! I've a 3yo lab atm and I want something as company for him when I'm at work. Also hopefully after something that doesn't cost the earth or yap!! please help!

Replied in the NL, I think a border terrier might suit, or maybe a schnauzer (although they need stripping) and would you consider a rescue pup or youngster?

sounds awful but I'd rather go for a rescue pup over a youngster basically because of having a 3yo neice I'd worry about the dogs background. know they do checks but in a way least if I get a pup I can train it myself.

You want a German Shorthaired Pointer! About the same size as your lab, but finer!

They're really smart, quick to learn, great with children, horses and most importantly SHORT hair!! ha ha!

My boy is coming up 6 months and I totally adore him. He is so clever he outgrew puppy class in 3 weeks and is now in the advanced class with the big boys (only pup in there).

7 weeks when we went a met him

9 weeks

5 months

AND.... tired

If I can help, feel free to ask questions. Every one I've met have fab temperaments and love to be trained and learn.

Many spitz breeds only moults two periods per year, a few weeks but between that there is nothing!

Finnish Lapphund is the most easy to own breed that I've owned this far.

A rescue greyhound would fit your criteria exactly :) Very good with kids (mine put up with my niece (6) and nephew (1 1/2) brilliantly although they have never been used to children), about the same size as your lab, short hair so easy to maintain... lovely dogs :)

aw gawd, I've been messing about with the photo album thing and downloading some piccys, I haven't got a clue what I'm doing!!!!!

A pic of my Border Terrier was supposed to appear, looking especially cute in his rasta hat!!!:D

I have been thinking of one of those too, or a basset hound, just love their sad little faces!

*CAYLA* spits her pop out:eek: don't go there, bassets are for the experienced and not for the faint harted, please do not go there, atleast till u read up on them......we have 3 to rehome from our rescue:rolleyes: and even though we have had interest, I have asked all of those people to go research the breed, and each and every one said, "thanx, THATS DEF NOT THE DOG FOR US", don't let that sad face trick u, they are bred that way:p there face can look nothing else but sad:D

LOL I was waiting for you on that one Cayla :D And personally I wouldnt ever recommend a Border, all the ones I have known have been nasty little sh*ts (especially the one which bit me on the face...) and are best avoided! Of course there will also be nice ones out there, I just have yet to meet one..

Just to add, I do want them to find homes, but would prefer experienced ones, I board alot of bassets, I have 2 coming in a few days time, the owners have given me a huge list of their bad habits:rolleyes::D
infact every one I board, 8 in total, all have behavioural issues, bar 1 who had been brought up with manners and gets lots of exercise:) and the only one with recall:D
