So, instead of an amphib or reptile due to me worrying about doing it all wrong, i have got two rats. never owned rats but have had many hammys (all kinds), gerbils etc. I got everything set up and saw some the other day but visited another place today and picked up two 9week old boys who i have named Benzai (Ben for short) and Ed. Will post pics once they are settled, love them already!

I would like to hear what you do to entertain your ratties, i want to do as many enriching things as poss (not all at once obviously) but want to keep them entertained throughout their life. im already going to make pouches out of old socks and make fruit and veg skewers to hang.

any other ideas?

I have a large rope stretching across the cage, a hammock, a net to climb up, a wooden chew hanging from the top of the cage, a coconut shell, a wooden house, an old sock, a tube and a treat stick for them at the moment.

Found today that one rattie (Ed) has decided he is sleeping in the house on the shelf but dear Benzai who seems to be a neurotic little thing is sticking to the coconut shell. He doesnt seem to like the shelf or like to climb higher than that and is sticking to the base. He is so jumpy, he literally pings everywhere.

Ed on the other hand has now been coming to the door and climbing out and we even managed a small amount of handling.

Think he will be the cuddly one where as Benzai is going to take a bit of persuading!
