Hey! So I picked up my new baby last night, a small 3 yr old female who was abandoned here in portugal (like so many others!)

It's clear that she was severely maltreated by humans at some point as she is petrified of people but luckily she seems to have taken to me very quickly and lets me fuss her. Strangers can't even get close but I have faith she will regain her trust in them soon.

My question is regarding her breed (or should I say breeds, as she is clearly a mix of a few!) I wondered if any of you guys had any ideas? I understand it's impossible to tell solely from photos, and she is severely overweight at the moment (working on that..)

She weighs about 8kg currently, here she is...

Oh wow, i'd never heard of the Maneto! And as she came from the streets, I just assumed she would have been the product of a chance meeting between other strays! But yes those images look JUST like her, and in a few days I am sure her personality with shine through and I will notice some breed traits.

She was called "Mauzona" by the rescue who took her in, due to being a little snappy and distrusting at first (in Portuguese it translates to mean, or badass..) so of course I will be changing it to something similar but nicer once I get to know her a little more!

What about ziva?
The second of the links is a rough translation from a Spanish rescue of the breed..they seem to be fantastic dogs, bright, aloof with strangers but devoted to their person,a true working dog in a small package.

Verrrry cute!

DNA test? Wisdom Panel is allegedly fairly accurate. Got my known heritage (cross breed) dog spot on with 100% confidence, and my mutt also makes sense!

I don't think it's a podengo...

the Italian sighthound rescues have diversified from just galgols and are bringing in podengos and also Ibizan hounds..the podengos are taller ,longer in the legs..
All are beautiful, elegant dogs ,I'm sorely tempted ,but am holding true for a larger schnauzer if I can swing it with my hub.

You could be right, but I saw some Small Podengos at Discover dogs a few years ago and they were only around JRT size. Lovely little dogs but was put off by the fact that they are apparently real hunters. So we got another Lancashire Heeler, who is a ****** for going off hunting !
