Well not only am I a novice rider (about a year and a half) I’m also just about to purchase my own horse. I of course blame my wife who has been providing the encouragement and support all the way through my early days to present for this venture.

The horse I’m about to buy is a lovely bright bay mare who is a TBX. She is strong enough for my weight yet agile and forward going and will certainly be a challenge for me over the coming months if I want to compete for clear rounds next summer.

I am however very nervous and I know that keeping a horse requires time and dedication.

My message to any man that might read this forum (or possibly when forced to by their other half) don’t be shy give it a go, you never know you may enjoy yourself and join the ranks of us few men who also like to ride. It certainly beats sitting in front of the TV watching football

Plus the appeal of having to spend so much time on yards full of sexy girlies in jodhpurs should not be understated, eh, muffin? Or should we not mention that to your wife?

(Entirely tongue in cheek, i should add - the sight of me in jodhpurs is enough to send any man running for two paper bags)

I agree with you totally! It's too bad that my girlfriend doesn't like to ride and is afraid of horses. She tried, for me, when we began dating, but fell once and never returned(then she got pregnant with our son,) and that was that...

I am sure everyone is telling you about the young rider/old horse advice. I never listened, thinking myself in good physical shape and (HA, HA, HA,) a 'natural at riding. Boy, did I pay for this error!

Why is it that so many women ride anyway?

cheers/enjoy...rr

Why is it that so many women ride anyway?

Women out-number men by let's say 10 to 1. And yet at so many of the top riders are blokes. Strange.
