Im riding someone's horse casually, paying a bit towards upkeep and shoeing and have had a look at the rugs. The turnout needs washing proofing and repairing, which locally seems to come to the same cost as a new one with all the good offers around. Just seems unfair to put a horse that lives out all year out in a rug that could let water etc in. As i dont own him and the owner cant spare any cash to go halfes or anything, should i repair, buy new and keep as my own or leave be??

If you have the money and you like riding the horse and don't think the owner would be offended, I would buy a new one for the horse - not an expensive one, but it sounds like you like the horse, so I'm sure he would appreciate it!

Ditto this, but check with the owner first. I'm sure she will be pleased, you could say it is an early Xmas present!
