In H&H news (sorry don't know how to do links), there is an article on how possible changes to local planning regulations may make it more difficult to get planning permission for equine facilities. Regarding the comment by H&H reader saying that there are nine maneges within a mile of their particular area, it is worth noting that most planning decisions state they are for private use only. Unless planners are going to be flexible and allow people the chance to let their friends/neighbours use their arena, then the number in the area is irrelevant as to whether someone else should be granted permission.

It was interresting the bit about tatty places It's because of planning laws this happens!!!! ie people having tempoary storage/ movable junk like lorry bodys and old caravans... Because its so hard to get pp for a yard and not everyone has a lot of money so they buy a bit of land and do the best they can, if the nimbys take over there will be more not less crappy yards .. if people could get pp for a tidy yard easly but with a no junk clause surely that would be better??? ...

Really annoying when people are not allowed to let friends use the arena a bit like saying you cant have friends round to share your garden or BBQ

Why not a clause for no competitions instead?
ie no increase in traffic in the area
Because that would make too much sense!!
anyway there are to many of these non produtive twunts in local govement give them a brush or shovel instead of a clip board and things would improve.....

you are so right!

Surely its not the point who else in the area has a manege already, if you cant use it anyway?
I mean, I know its not the same situation, but Id say the majority of the houses in my street have an extension on them...mine doesnt, if I was to apply for PP for one would they say 'nope, there are 9 already on your street'?
