Hi, my cob came with an unsuitable saddle (slipped constantly) so I got him the best I could at the time which was really comfy for me but still had slipping issues. I have recently purchased a saddle that fits him WAY better, has yet to be unseated when he does a 360 at the scary stone we're passing :) I don't find it as comfy though. When hacking out at the weekend - walking only as was the first outing of the year for the tubby one - my right ankle got really sore and uncomfortable. When we got back I struggled to get off him as knee/ankle felt seized up as if frozen. I didn't have this problem with the old saddle, any thoughts on what could be causing this or how I can address it would be really appreciated, thanks in advance.

If the saddle was sitting to one side and now it is straight it could be as simple as that, the way it was sitting may have been caused by you and the horse, you being very glad it was to one side as it relieved your ankle (not consciously of course!). I would go to a McTimoney chiro and see if you are straight. For now I would ride longr if you can, and see if you can borrow some hinged irons, you may not need them long term.
