Evening all :)

I have decided I would like to drive my cob mare for pleasure

She was long reined when I broke her in, so has slipped back into it easily and we ventured down the road and back on the weekend along with Ally_F who was riding her TB - this was a success and she led the whole way there :)

I wondered if anyone else on here drives and if they have round a particular site helpful for info along with good classifieds.

I am also looking to read up on the disipline and would like a book with regards to training, tack, typres of vehicle etc. I don't want one that it too wordy so I was thinking of the Threshold guides?

Thanking you in advance :)

hey,
im flying through the forum tonight as im trying to do a million and one things. If you need any help or advice feel free just to drop me a message. or oglestables@btinternet.com for anything at all. There are loads of people that drive its just finding them!

gonna be totally honest here. Unless you have a person who knows what they are doing or you are confident I would send her away to be broken to drive. I say this because I think its too easy to ruin a lovely horse if you run into problems. Not being narky but I drive have done for a couple of years now and I have taken on a new project for ride and drive. I am happy to do the long reining and harness with a tractor tyre (she has been previoulsy driven) but that is where I will stop I will send her away to be yolked up and driven for a few weeks as I do not want to ruin her plus I do not feel happy that if I run into problems I could solve them.

Does that make sense?

Thanks that was a quick response!!

@ Toffee44: Thank you for your advice, I am lucky enough to have a close friend on the yard who can drive and her sister works for a carriage driving company (weddings and funerals etc - Even been in Dr Who!!) I am planning on doing all the ground work myself with her help and then prob send her to her sisters to back actually put to the vehicle :)

Echo Toffee all the groundwork is not to much for most horses & even the tyre pulling as long as you & your helper is calm & wont panic if the horse does but putting to shafts can be too much for some horses brains & if not handled well its way to easy to ruin a potentally good driving horse.
