hello all,
I'm new to H&H and thought I'd introduce me and my story, and am secretly hoping there's lots out there with similar story's that have happy endings.
so I'll start with my old boy, he's a 13.2hh 20 year old pony who's been retired for the last 5 years now due to COPD.
i got him as a 4 year old when i was 14, we learned and grew together. tho he had his quirks he was never nasty or dangerous, he was a great gymkhana pony and we had allot of fun together and he's earned his retirement, though if you asked him he'd still tell you he's a strapping 5 year old.
so after a couple of years of him being retired i wanted to get back into riding and bought a 7 year old 14.2hh cob mare, i won't dwell much on this as i'm trying to look forward and not back, but over two years of rearing and bolting, i loose all my confidence and put myself in debt.
so i finally said enough's enough and she is now out on full loan to a girl in her late teens and is doing extremely well with her, so much so that last month she did her first dressage test.
so after putting my mare out on loan 4 months ago and me losing the use of the horse i had lessons on earlier in the year as he moved away, i'd pretty much resigned myself to never riding again.
Then have and behold a 15hh, 15 year old mare come's up for loan that apparently would suit me down to the bone. now having my confident issues and also i'm only 5'1 a 15hh horse seems huge to me.
but i'm assured she would be great for me, so i go and see her and she looks big! but she was so mellow and chilled i fell in love with her. i went out on a short walk up the lane and i'm a bag of nerves but she just plods along like there's no worries. i see her another 2 times and i agree to take her on a months trial before committing to permanent loan.
so two weeks have passed since getting her and it's been good but I've gone at a very slow pace, the first time i got on her after bringing her home i got straight off after having a panic attack, she did nothing but in my mind i was so worried she freak at the new school or the new tack or anything else, that i was a shivering wreck, my OH (he's a beginner) got on and walked her round so i could see she be fine in a new environment. i got back on and all was fine.
I'm now happy to get on and walk around, she hasn't put a foot wrong and I'm learning to trust her.
it's all looking very promising and I'm hoping I've found my horsey partner that will give me years of enjoyment as much as my old boy did.
i'm hoping there's lots more people with storys like mine with happy endings, i would love to hear them.
