Hi ??
Totally new to horses/riding so any advice greatly appreciated.

I’ve not started lessons yet, just doing some research; I’ve decided on a couple of local equine centres to try and then go from there.
I want to start with the basics, grooming, tacking up and then learning to ride.
Wondering what clothes I should wear? When our on a hack my hands got sore so I think gloves are a must!

Hi ?

Bottoms are best if they are stretchy and have no seam down the inside of the leg. Top, wear what you like. Hat up to standard, bought new. And yes, gloves. I wear pimple palm cotton gardening gloves from B&M, dead cheap. Decent sports bra. Knickers of choice but many of us swear by M&S granny style and give a big fat NO to a thong, but some people like them!

Have fun!

Clothes you don't mind getting dirty which are also a bit durable. Leggings are great to wear as bottoms when you are starting out. I usually prefer to wear something with long sleeves and a collar to protect myself from scratches etc, but this can get warm in the summer.

Gloves are definitely a good idea, and you can often get cheap riding gloves for <£10.

Sensible footwear with a defined heel that will protect the top of your foot is important. Many yards will have boots to borrow, but if not, wellies etc are also fine when you are just starting out.

A proper riding hat is also important- again the yard will likely have hats available to borrow. When you are first learning stable management, it can be a good idea to wear a hat in the stable as well- smashing heads with a horse because you both moved at the wrong time is no fun!

Dont buy fancy stuff ,look at what the yard girls (sorry that was sexist ,and guys) are wearing. They wear stuff that works. Nothing fancy . Hell , back when we rode dinosaurs , the racing lads on what would now be multi million pound horses ,rode out in ladies wellies (thin pointed boots) with the tops turned down to give them a (rather unconvincing ) race boot look.Sigh , a simpler time . You just needed to turn your flat cap backwards for fast work.
