I am thinking of taking my part loan gelding to a few local shows this summer and need some advice! Unfortunately my TB was pts in November and I took a few months out from the horses to recover. Any of you who have read any of my previous posts will know that I was going to take my part loan at the time out to a show in the winter but unluckily that partnership didn't work out and with my girly gone and the two shitlands left I have taken on a new horse! He is lovely and just what I needed to get back into it! I have been riding him for about 9 weeks but rode him last year as well to keep him fit. I am keen to get out to shows with him, for his experience as much as mine! He is a 7 yo CobXDales ( if i knew how to post photos in here I would:D) and about 15.3hh. The classes I was considering were
-Have a go showing aged 16 and under
Now I have no idea what this entails so any details would be greatly appreciated (its a ridden class if that helps)
-Ridden cob
I don't know if I could get away with this as he's a cross and not overwhelmingly 'cobby'. He has a good mane but not a whole load of feather and has a very dales face. Would we be able to get away with this as it is a local show?
-In hand gorgeous gelding
What should I expect to be doing in an in hand class? I haven't shown since I was 10, 6 years ago

In the ridden class I know that I will be expected to do an individual show so what should I include in this? And what will we have to do as a group?
What should I be wearing? I have heard that because I am a junior I can get away with short boots but would short boots with gaiters be acceptable? or just short boots?
As for Max should I stick to a plain sheepskin numnah? and in hand do I need a lead rein specifically for in hand or just pull his reins over his head?
Sorry for the bombardment of questions, all the help is appreciated! As I said its all just for a bit of fun and at local level with my local riding club
TIA x

If he looks more dales than cob, you could do part bred classes. Cobs are usually hogged and clipped. You could also do best condition, tack and turnout, equitation classes. There will be loads to do.
Your tack should be very clean, keep it workmanlike. A brown discreet numnah to match his saddle, nice clean and plain bridle.
If you are under 16 jodhpurs boots and clips are correct, you can wear tweed or navy jacket, smart shirt and tie and neat hair.
Good luck OP you'll enjoy it!!

Actually when riding horses long black boots are correct regardless of age of rider. Black jod boots with black leather gaitors are equally acceptable.
Always a tweed jacket unless on a show hack (very fine and dainty)

Pull reins over the head for inhand class.
For ridden class your individual show should be walk away from judge, trot and canter on each rein and gallop on the last rein. Keep it short and sweet.
As a group you will be expected to walk trot and canter on each rein when the steward says so
