Hi all new to the Horse and Hound.
Myself and my family have just moved to Edinburgh from the states. I have been a professional Hunter/Equitation trainer in the states for the last 10 years. The horse community is very different here and I was wondering if anyone can give any advice as a place to start? I am looking to eventually get back to work in the Industry but at the moment am home with my 3 children and horseless. The first time in 15 years.
I am looking for a competition barn to get my children involved in the horses as well as myself. Not really looking for up/down horse rentals or pony rides. Any information as to the better barns and instructors in the Edinburgh/Lothians area would be greatly appreciated. Look forward to meeting some of you as well.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome! You may find that a loan of a horse may suit you in your new situation, until you get more settled! I don't think it's very common in the states, but a loan is very popular in the uk. This way you have full access to a horse as if it's your own without the initial cost of
purchasing.
Sorry I'm not in your area, so can't recommend any yards, but thought this may be a good solution to get the family back on a horse!

Cheers

Hi,

You may find it useful to talk to Tarrsteps on here, she relocated from Canada to the UK, other end from you mind, but she had to find her feet and start up anew, she may have some tips for you.

There are lots of Scottish people on here, I am sure they'll be on here sooner or later. Perhaps if you put Edinburgh in your thread title that might help.

Are you enjoying Scotland?

Thanks for the replys!!!
Will keep you in mind for sure if I move that way.LOL
I have considered a horse loan ( think it would be more a pony loan HAHA for the kids... and me I have a HUGE soft spot for ponies as most of clients were pony jocks). But really looking to get into the "scene" and get some advice as to a facility to start with. I have no idea who is good or bad and some inside info is always helpful.
Thanks for the advice about the Canadian and the Edinburgh thread. Fairly new to forums in general too.
To answer your question I am enjoying Scotland and orginally from Edinburgh. I hold a UK passport but have lived in the states for the last 23 years as this is were my father was working as I grew up. I went to university for equestrian studies and owned and operted a Hunter breeding and show farm in Virginia. So it is a huge change but all my family is here so I have a huge support system. Only no one else in the family is into horses. So REALLY want my kids to have access here like they did on our own farm. Not sure that we are ready to buy the farm yet though!
