as some of you will know i have bought a 3yr halterbroken mare about 2 weeks ago.
the first week we had some problems - she tried totalling a car one day and the next took me over an hour to catch!!!!!
this week however we have made great progress.
*she has said HI to the farrier - who is trimming her front feet a week on tuesday,
*she is leading pretty well - only a few shys and spooks etc,
*have started to desensitize her - she is great at carrier bags being stroked and
rustled all over her, under her belly, around her legs etc
*have started to lead her in the indoor school - only a few laps on each rein but
she is starting to get the idea that when she goes in there she has to work - not
run around like a loony like the original owners let her do
*my YO and instructor has said she is making great progress and we may even be able to start bitting her within the next week or so.
not bad for a mare that had NOTHING done with her - even had problems picking up her feet, leading etc - the most basic of things.
it has helped a lot that i have got her into a routine and have cut down her hard feed by a hell of a lot - she is only on a very small handful of mare and youngstock mix to go with her scoop of garlic - the other owners were giving her 4HANDFULS OF THE STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if anyone can pass on advice, infomation or hints i would be really grateful - any help will NOT be ignored!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks all
