I'm moving onto a new yard on saturday. Where I am currently, there is a grill between mine and next door's stable, so my ned can see the horse next door. If you take the next horse out she box walks and ofetn trots/canters on the spot. This can go on all day. The new yard doesn't have grills between the stables so she'll not be able to see the other horses, can anyone give me any tips to help her settle in better? We've covered the grill and she's settled fine so she might surprise me and settle, but I'm terrified she'll box walk and I'll have to move her back to the current yard.

Also, I'm going from rubber matting with shavings, to stone floor and straw bedding. I've never been good at muckin out straw beds, am I right in thinkin I can probably get away with leaving the banks all week and just doing the middle bit, then doing a full muckout every weekend?

Thanks in advance!

a friends horse started box walking and getting very unsettled when he was on box rest, so we put up a large mirror in his stable for him. Don't know wether he thought he had a friend or it just kept him amused, but it calmed him down instantly :)

I've got one in her current stable but it doesn't work there, might be more effective at the new place so still going to put it up. It's pretty distorted though so her reflection doesn't look much like a horse! :-)
