Hi Everyone,

I am new to the H&H forum, I have been reading over the last few days and found the posts to be helpful and informative so thought I would ask a few questions :-)

I am fairly new to riding, although horses have been a lifelong passion for me. My mum had a bad accident when she was younger and so I was never allowed to ride. However, now I'm in charge of my own finances I have set some aside for riding!

After having lessons for a few months I decided I wanted to take the next step and become a sharer of someones horse and I think I have found the perfect situation for me :-)

However, I wanted to know if a sharers agreement should be signed as I am paying £125 per month for 3days a week of my choosing at the yard. Also, I wanted to know if I needed insurance. I know the horse is insured but I didn't know if I'd need any for myself.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hello *waves*

Welcome to the forum, IMO, and I'm sure other people will give you answers who are much better qualified to talk about this than me but I would sign an agreement and it is probably a good idea to get insurance for yourself

Hi, Yes an agreement that suits both parties is a good idea, saves any possible confusion at a later date. I think the BHS gold membership gives you suitable insurance cover. Enjoy your new share horse

Hi there

I had a formal share agreement for a horse, paid £110 a month for 3-4 days a week. The owner and I tailored the BHS loan contract to suit our situation, in it we stated who was responsible for horse on which days, who should call vet and/or pay for treatment, responsibilities of owner (make sure tack is available, horse shod), tack the horse should be ridden in, when payment was due each month amongst other things.

I am insured with Petplan, they do a pretty comprehensive rider only insurance policy that's got more covered compared to the bhs gold membership, think it's about £80 a year.
