Hello! I'm hoping to start BE80 next year and just wondered if anyone could advice a good one to start with in central Scotland? I wanted to do Drumclog but obv that doesn't do a BE event anymore, so looking for something else to aim for that isn't too scary! And also not a million miles away from Glasgow? TIA x

Drumclog - would be your best bet. I thought they were still running BE event but just had withdrawn from running this year and will be back for 2017

CSHT at Dalkeith do a BE80 but they are usually a full and up to height course so depends on how confident you and your horse are XC if you wish to start there. I walked the course with a view for next year with my youngster and think I would need a couple of BEs under my belt before tackling there but depends on how bold your horse is XC.

Also look at Eden Valley in cumbria as good roads so easy travelling as a first BE80.

Drumclog will be back in 2017 weather permitting :)

All of the early 80's are nice, Dalkeith does have a decent ditch in theirs, but no hills.

Kirriemuir is lovely, one decent hill.

Forgandenny is one of our favourites, lovely course, they run two BE events and Fife Pony Club run an ODE there :)

Thank you for your replies :)
That's good to know that Drumclog will be back next year, that can be my aim!
I walked the BE80 at Dalkeith with a friend a couple of years ago and remember thinking it was huge lol! So might need to work up to that one.
Thanks again :)

Ps. Will definitely check out Forgandenny too, the pony club ODE sounds good. Hopefully I'll find some more unaffiliated ODEs before I try a BE next year x

Drumclog should definitely be back next year, and it's a fab 80t starter, this was my very first BE about four years ago. Forgandenny is FAB! I did the 90 and my friend did 80t, great course and if horse doesn't like ditches there are alternatives.
