Hi, I've been on here a little while but this is my first proper post I'd say!
I got my first (loaned several for years!) horse in august, she is a 16hh 6 year old ID.
This is her now (she has put on weight since I got her)

Now she's just started to come in at night, shes barely being rugged as we are still having 15+ degree weather!! She's getting ad-lib haylage.
She's now being fed twice a day, one small scoop (dry) speedibeet, one large scoop chaff, one large scoop condition cubes, garlic and pink powder.
Is there anything else I can feed her to help her put on weight?
(was thinking maybe boiled barley/microionised barley)
Thanks

She looks like a really nice type and not really needing to put on weight , just needing to muscle up and this will take time. She is an Irish horse and they are late maturing usually, so I would continue as you are with the feed, plenty of haylage and rugging so she is not losing weight keeping warm at night.

She will by next year look more mature and have gained more muscle if you work her correctly, what are your plans for her?

Welcome Samlf and congratulations on purchasing your first horse and dapple grey too :-)

With regard to feeding, horses should always be fed according to the work they are doing.

I see you are feeding speedi beet dry, I would strongly advise you not to feed it dry it must be soaked otherwise it can cause compaction in the gut. Follow the instructions on the bag.

See how she does on the regime you are feeding her now, it is best not to introduce too many new feeds too soon.

This is a useful link.

Agree that you should not be feeding speedy beet dry. This should always be soaked and it clearly states this on the packaging!

Your horse looks lovely she has a kind eye, everything you are doing sounds great except the feeding of speedibeet DRY!!!!! its beet it has to be soaked, speedibeet only takes 10 mins to soak, but you still have to soak it, please don't take this as a nag! it says what to so on the bag as a previous responder replied!

I didnt mean I was feeding it dry!! I meant it was one small scoop when dry (as obviously is a lot more when soaked)
My plans - she needs a fair amount of schooling as shes only ever been lightly hacked, but will be mostly hacking over winter to build up muscle etc, and when shes going better will be doing some working/ridden hunter classes, a bit of everything else too
