Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum :) I was looking for some advice regarding my ponies straightness in canter. We went to some dressage yesterday and did very well and the only comment was that his quarters came in in the canter. I know he does do this sometimes and I wondered if there was any exercises etc.. I can try to improve this. Hes 14.1hh, 21years old and isn't particularly built for dressage (i.e no front end and big back end!)

Thanks in advance for your help :)

First of all make sure you are sitting straight as this is most influential to how your pony goes. Also check his saddle and back are ok.
I would then, instead of trying to push his quarters out, work him slightly in shoulder fore to bring the front to join the quarters, if you try and push him out what often happens is they push back into your leg and it can get worse rather than better.
Counter canter is a good way of straightening as to be correct they need to be genuinely straight, loops off of the track and leg yielding can all help.
