Hi all,

This is my first ever post in the hunting forum so please excue my lack of knowledge:o
The pony i loan is a hunter(used to go regular) and i would one day love to take her, I know absolutely nothing may i exaggerate nothing! Don't worry with my lack of knowledge i'm not planning on going anytime soon....
So please could you lovely HHO member tell me the basics and how it all works and everything.
Thank you:)

Hellooo - many much more experienced people on here than me but I can help a bit.

Ring secretary of local hunt to ask if ok to attend and to get meet details - most hunts meet 2 or 3 times a week.

September ish to start of main season which is November ish is called Autumn hunting (also known as cubbing) - its cheaper (as little as £10) - not out as long - earlier start in the morning (8ish rather than 11ish) wear tweed jacket and tie or stock with cream/beige jods and black or brown boots - no need to plait - ideal for fittening horses and the days get longer as main season approaches

Main season starts November ish with opening meet - wear black jacket and stock with cream/beige jods and black boots - horse to be plaited - some hunts let you pay per hunt others like you to subscribe after so many outings.

Always say good morning to everyone and goodnight when you leave and dont overtake the huntmaster

Lovely that you have a pony to look after you - it was new to both me and Dex so a steep learning curve haha

hello! may I point you in the direction of the 'stickied' posts at the top of the hunting forum - such as advice for hunting newbies! they should provide a lot of useful info!

otherwise, Meesha has given you a good start, and please feel free to ask more specific questions as you have them!

Find out who your local hunt are - there is a hunting directory on the main H&H homepage. Give the Secretary a ring to find out when and where they are meeting then go along on foot to see what it is all about. You can go to the meet itself and should be able to follow on foot/in the car too :)

Thanks for all your help:)
will find out were local hunt is, hopefully not to far.
