Hi everyone,
I was speaking to a groom at my yard the other day and he said that I should hog and de-feather my boy and cut his tail to his hocks, then show him as a ‘proper’ show cob.
He’s an appy X cob, but I never thought he looked ‘cobby’ enough to fit the bill. I’d love to get into showing, as he has manners to die for and IMO is well put together (but I may be bias..!) but I have no idea what to ‘class’ him as! Any showing pros that have more of an idea that me, I’d love your help

Sorry the photo of him standing isn’t on completely level ground..

I can barely see the pic for the photobucket advertising nonsense so I hope you don't mind me adding it so it is easier for others

(and yes I would get the clippers out ;) )

Sorry, I don’t know how to normally upload photos on my phone! And we’ve wanted to get the clippers out for ages, I loaned him through winter and just bought him last week, his old owners forbade clipping so poor pony had to go through the whole winter sweaty and uncomfortable (he sweats up a lot even without a winter coat!)

How big is he? to me he looks more of a pony type than a real show cob, that said he would benefit from a tidy up, feathers off and tail trimmed anyway but I would leave the mane for now it can be plaited for the first few shows, that way you are not limiting your options until you have done a few local shows to see how he goes.

He’s 15.2 😁

I'd start by taking the feathers off, pulling the tail and trimming it to the right length. then post another picture of him on here as I'm not sure he has enough substance/bone for a light weight cob
