Hi, my first post on this site and thought I would start with something I witnessed on Saturday at the Newbury show. I'm unsure of the show class in question, but think it was ladies light hack? (they were riding side saddle). Following the presentations of the rosettes, the 1st & 2nd horses cantered off on their lap of honour but the person (I will not call her a lady!) held her horse in the middle of the ring. The horse started to get wound up and then careered toward the barriers where I was standing. At this point she dismounted and preceeded to beat her horse around the head with her show cane (she was still in the corner of the ring at this point). She continued to beat her horse, alternating between head and rump, shouting at the horse. I admit I lost my rag and told her she should be ashamed of herself. At this point Kelly Marks ran past me yelling 'Did I just see that right'? Kelly confonted the woman and for a moment it looked like fists might fly. I put in an official complaint to the steard, who later told me that they had received numerous complaints and the judges had summoned the woman to their tent. I hope she get's banned. Did anyone alse see this?

I wasn't there and didn't see it but well done you for not just standing by. If more people were prepared to challenge these individuals and the relevant societies banned them they may reconsider their actions.

Also well done Kelly Marks for the same actions.

How horrible for people to see that.

Good for you for standing up for the horse and also Kelly!

Hope there is a permanent showing ban for said person!

Absolutely NO NEED for this behaviour towards a horse!

We are supposedly the 'higher being' and therefore SHOULD not take out anger on a excited/scared horse!

I was there but didn't see that particular class. Well done you for putting in a complaint.

I did pass Kelly that afternoon, and she did look a wee bit angry about something, so I wouldn't have been surprised if that was just after the event.

Hopefully, with enough complaints from the spectators, and with Kelly's name in support too, something will be done about this.
