Hello I have recently found a stable that will let me ride and help muck out and groom their horses with my epilepsy, and today whilst riding Maverick a 16hh Irish Cob type, the owner said I could go off on my own without being led, I was extremely excited at first and loved it, but I noticed that Maverick didn't like going on the inside too much, he did really well weaving in and out of the buckets and going over poles on the ground, but whenever we circled around the arena, he would take a while to go near the edge, is this normal for a cob type? Or am I doing something wrong? Please help! :)

Probably not. Going over poles and weaving round buckets is fun so the horse did it by itself. Going round the arena is BORING so you would have to be able to ride him.
I am not being sarcastic and you will learn but if this was your first time without being led, the horse was probably just taking the mickey in a laidback sort of way.

It's not so much that the horse is taking the mickey, as that it actually doing what the rider is asking. To ask a horse to ride on the track you need to use your inside leg and outside hand (which will be much better explained by the owner on the ground at the time). At the moment your muscles aren't sufficiently developed to do this without considerable effort, OP, especially as he is a big, heavy horse. Don't worry, keep practising and you will get there! Enjoy the process.
