Does anybody have any ideas about the newly developed spookiness that my TB has developed?
He is now in work after some time off and when asked to do something out of his comfort zone he gets all stressy then spooky, then does a massive spook, then I fall off!

In hand he is totally calm, when dawdling along on a loose rein, nothing fazes him, but collect (lightly with reins) and lots of leg pressure as he doesn't 'do' working from behind he just starts to look for things to shy at.

Yesterday in the school, he was looking at things and I thought that was that but then he kicked some rubber onto the boards at the side and did a massive leap sideways, dumng me and disappearing.

Any ideas and this is obviously evasion, but what from? Pain? work?
I am tryng find a good chiropractor west sussex/Hants to check him over if anybody can recommend one. I am getting to old to keep landng on my head :)

any help appreciated

First thing is teeth, back and saddle. I don't want to worry you but I would also get his eyes checked. A ISH my daughter used to ride started doing exactly what you are describing and it turned out her eyesight was deteriorating and so she was not seeing things until she was almost on them. Also light and dark was an issue for her.

Hope it is something simple, please keep us updated.

Definitely an evasion, he has worked out that he gets out of work by spooking therefore chucking you off! Naughty boy!!!!
Get checks done if you are worried about pain etc but my NON-tb does this out of general high-spirited cheekiness. Especially if he is feeling lively due to overfeeding, lack of turnout, too much spring grass etc so I tackled those issues. I have learned how to stay on when he does it (with the help of a strap that I grab when I feel he is going to 'go'), now if he does do it he gets a smack and a boot and is made to work VERY hard!!! Strangely enough he doesn't do it all that much any more...
As I'm not used to tbs I can't comment on them tho!

Thank you for your replies. I think he is being naughty as he is very clever and I just hope its nothing serious like his eyes. It does just seem to be when he is asked to work hard. I think I am going to invest in a RS-tor and hold on a bit tighter lol. I can understand that he might be getting bored too, more hacking for us then

Yep mine is very clever too, he has a whole repertoire of evasions that he tries out on me!!!! He also gets bored in the school so we tend to hack more.
Clever ones are a real nuisance!!! Good luck in sorting it!

No probs with girths, no problems at all until my leg goes on then the ears start to flicker and you can almost see the thoughts going through his brain....shall i? shan't i?....

My TB has just started spooking over the last few days. I think it might be the spring grass. He lives out and by looking at his droppings and the fact that he won't come in anymore when I shout of him it's definitely come through. I bought him last summer and he's normally pretty laid back but this is my first spring with him. Fortunately his spooks are quite small and I haven't come off yet!

Hope you sort your out Rupertmum. Good luck!
