Has anyone used this? My horse was at the vets today as he's been lame and had heat in his hoof, he was nerve blocked and xrayed and nothing really came up- I was imagining the worst as he's getting on a bit and was thinking of navicular, pedalostitis, cracked pedal bone... anyway xrays were clear, vet actually said they were in very good condition for his age! Horse was on and off lame while he was there, seemed to work out of it after a bit and was flying around when he was lunged. But then threw in a few lame steps on last trot up!! I think hes just a chancer and is a major wimp about anything sore! Only thing vet could think of was that hes getting a bit stiff in the joints as hes that bit older and so gave me a tub of the newmarket joint supplement, was very expensive- nearly as much as the vets bill!! So is it worth it? I hadn't heard of it before.

Just in case the link that was suggested on a previous post did not help I thought I would let you know my experience with Newmarket Joint Supplement.

The Vet suggested that one of my horses is given this supplement following a cortisone injection into his fetlock, just over a year ago, and it appears to have done the job insofar as his lameness has not come back in that leg. However I also decided, at about the same time, to give my old boy (he will be 26 in May) the supplement as I had read that long term use of Bute (or Danilon in his case!) can have a negative effect on the joints (sorry cannot remember the exact reasons etc!) ….he had been suffering from Cushings induced Laminitis. I can certainly see the positive effects on him as he was very stiff behind and did not like being shod behind and all that stiffness has gone and that’s even with a bout of 5 months box rest …. He is back acting like a two year old again!.
It costs me approx £96 for 1.5 kg via the Vet and lasts me two months, this is administered at one level scoop each a day …. So for one horse its about four months supply.
It is a huge expense but I cannot take them off it as I do not want to see one go lame again and the other one stiffen up.
Good Luck and I hope this information helps!

Thanks eaglestone, the vet gave me enough for at least 4 months so it probably isn't that expensive overall, I was just curious about it as I hadn't heard of it before and theres so much marketing that goes on with other joint supplements you're not sure who to trust. He got a bit stiff last summer so put him on a different well known (and also expensive) joint supplement and didn't see a huge difference, he's been on cider vinegar and carron oil all winter but with competition season starting soon and his work increasing he could probably do with something a bit stronger. I don't mind paying for it if it works, but I'm in ireland so things tend to be more expensive here anyway, I might try and shop around online for it when I need to get another supply in. Hes only been on it a few days so probably be another few weeks before I see a difference!!
