Knowledge of anything horsey in the area would be apprecied!
- Tack shops
- Feed shops
- Liveries (although done some quite intense research into these so far!)
- Riding schools?
- Vets, farriers, dentists etc could be handy?
- etc etc! :D

Doing MORE research for when me & my OH move down there (hopefully!) over the summer, Dante is coming with :D Most important part now is finding a yard & such though, and maybe a way of making a few extra pennies :) so I am hoping to take some adverts around tack shops, newsagents & the likes tomorrow  if I see any but it will only be the first of many visits :)

Any ideas appreciated :)

Stupid question - but what will you be advertising???
I am about 10 miles from Newport.
Tack shops - in Newport, Wynnstay Farmers & Countrywide, IMO Wynnstay 100x better than Countrywide but not amazing. In Eccleshall (about 6 ish miles towards M6) there is Eccleshall Animal Health, quite reasonable selection saddlery and feeds and massive second hand section upstairs. Plus big advert board downstairs with lots of livery yards advertised.
Feed Merchants - see above - Wynnstay best prices IMO
Yards, can tell you some to avoid! Plenty nice ones but I;m a little too far away to be a huge help
Riding Schools - Telford Equestrian, about 4 ish miles away in Muxton/Donnington, facilities good, mostly cobs for hacking and lessons, I have lessons from the owner but I don;t think he generally teaches group lessons (not sure if that helps?)
Vets - Heartily recommend Fyrnwy Equine based @ nr Shrewsbury but their reputation carries all the way through Shropshire - David Jagger, Jim Tipp we use.
Farrier - James Price from Gnosall (approx 4 miles from Newport)- or Steve Hill also from Gnosall.

This is my area lol, the previous message covers most of it, I second wynstay for feed and I use eccleshall for all tack they also have a brilliant second hand section which is also worth a look. I would wait to see where you are living before looking at liveries there are a few in the area but it would depend on your exact location and how much travelling you want to do. Pm me if you want any more info as happy to help.

jnb's said it all!
I can also let you know where to avoid if you would like.
There's also prescott equestrian, probably a bit far, but they have regular dr/sj competitions, and again, definitely too far, startlewood feeds, oswestry way but it may be worth putting an advert up there.
If you're in to racing.. http://www.pointtopoint.co.uk/go/courses/eyton_on_severn.html it's a seriously beautiful place.

Please anyone PM me with 'where to avoids'!! Would certainly be a good start :)
We spotted the tack shop in eccleshall today, whilst driving towards home, although it was already snowing and as we were with Rob's parents couldn't pop in sadly, but I will be having a nosey week after next :D
We will probably end up in a little flat right in the middle of Newport, but I guess we really do not know yet. Closer to the University the better (will be one of the main places I run back & forth to). I'm currently considering Blazehill Equestrian - sounds like good facilities & not too far away, going to have a nosey in a fortnight. Any opinions on this one? :)

Thanks everyone! I'm really looking forwards to the move, it looks like such a lovely area :)

Blazehill seems lovely - and old friend had her pony there and I considered it a couple of years back when my old yard closed down. Only the distance from my home (around 15 miles) stopped me.

My suggestions are all tailored to the Telford area, but all of this is 5 mins away from Newport!!

Albrighton feeds is a great tack shop, and we get all of our feed from TFM (they have a small store in Newport town) as they're often a few pounds cheaper than other places :) Diamond Saddlery on the way to cannock is also fantastic and always have great money off deals on rugs/tack/branded clothes.

Not too sure about Livery out towards Newport sorry :(

Riding schools; Telford Equestrian Centre, The Wyke @ Shifnal, The Nedge Farm. If you want freelance instructors, there are a few on the BHS website in our area.

Vets; I use St Georges in Albrighton. Friendly, professional, not extortionate and do free area visit days where they don't charge callout for coming to certain areas. They are also dentists and do a discount for having your jabs + teeth done on the same day.

Farriers: Ross Phillips who is always on time, always does a brilliant job and is generally lovely. 077773324011. £65 for a full set, £40 for a set of fronts and trim on the backs.

Physio: Emma Dainty

'Back Lady': Anna Fox

Local Shows: Wrekin North (Stirchley) Valley View (Broseley) Rodbaston (once a month Wednesday night + sunday showjumping) The Wyke (dressage)

Good luck with the move! xx
