In addition to new pup (had for about a fortnight) we have an old Lab, aged 12/13 and a terrier aged 7/8.
Labrador has taken to puppy and spends time cleaning his ears etc!
The terrier hates him, I thought this would wear off in a couple of days but its not. He wont attack him but is growly and gives a very wide berth. Im not quite sure if he's being nasty or is scared?!
Ive made a real effort to treat the other two the same as before and make a fuss of them- I also give them plenty of puppy free time.
The problem is the terrier has taken to running upstairs (which he's not allowed and knows it) and pee'ing in the bathroom- he then returns as if he's done nothing. Just now he's cocked his leg over my clean washing up there and pi**ed all over it.
The annoying part of it all is that the terrier is very playful and as old Labrador isn't overly bouncy anymore he could have real fun with puppy who's desperate to be friends!
Im not concerned about them fighting or hurting each other in any way but the fact my old dog is suddenly less house trained than the puppy (who's doing really well)

Sounds like the Terrier is a bit stressed with the new arrival. Try closing doors and restricting access to other parts of the house to prevent the soiling accidents. Might be worth trying Adaptil collars/diffusers for a couple of months to help the Terrier feel more at ease.

Can you walk them together or is pup too little to go out yet? If you can walk together, presumably terrier enjoys walking, he'll get to think that walking = fun = fun time with pup. Maybe take the lab on his own for a shorter walk (at 12 I daresay he's more sedate anyway) and see how this affects the dynamic.

Re the peeing - sounds like the terrier is trying to mark his own space somewhere the pup can't go, so that he still feels that he has somewhere that's his. One route would be to give him somewhere of his own, like a crate he can go in. However, there's also a case to be made that if he has somewhere that's his - he'll defend it. I personally think therefore that it's a case of stopping him going to those places for a few weeks until he accepts the puppy; I'm sure he will eventually. It can be stressful having a bouncy baby in the pack until everyone gets used to it!

My older dog was 10 when we got a puppy, and he was extremely stand offish with him. He grew to quite like him although he wouldn't sit next to him - if the puppy touched him when he was lying down, he'd be up and away! They did play together nicely; in fact, the last act of my older dog was to chase the younger one round the garden and nip his bum! That puppy is now fully grown, and we have a new young lad - they have got on brilliantly since the first day. This makes me think that some personalities just don't fit together quite as well as others - but you can still have a harmonious household.

Edited to say - this thread does really need photos ;)

I cant do photos! :( Im one of the least computer literate people out and just cant figure it out on this site!
Ive never heard of adaptil collars so will look them up- thank you.
Puppy actually has leg problems so he isn't walking no, He gets exercise lightly by coming to work (on a yard) and wandering round the yard with me. He's seeing the vet tomorrow so this might change then, but at the minute its quite limited.
We are trying to keep doors shut but you know what its like- daughter wanders in, two minutes later we realise terrier (Alfie) has disappeared- we must try harder!
I hate to think of him being stressed, poor little chap! Id figured by taking the puppy to work for the day it would give the others time to chill and relax.
My partner tried to involve both in a game last night but it didn't go great and as usual what he actually got was an elderly lab flopping over in the middle of the fun to show us his tummy! ;)

My lurcher hated the lab puppy and growled all the time at her. We ignored it (but then she didn't pee anywhere - could 't ignore that!). She always did hate her but at about 6 months old (lab) she would have a sneaky play if no one was looking.
I wouldn't encourage dogs to play, its a good way to make them lose their tempers unless they are a very settled group.
