I am slightly concerned having had horse treated for ulcers and 6 weeks of Gastrogard (so far) as well as 2 scopes that the NFU haven't contacted me regarding my claim (put in at the end of November) and am getting concerned that they will suddenly turn round and say they aren't going to pay my claim. No reason for them not to but I wish they would just come back to me saying yes its all fine. Not so worried about when the money is paid. I just want it paid!!

Is anyone else having trouble with their claims being processed?

Yes, my claim with them for the same issue took about 8-10 weeks for them to confirm. They are paying all without question though. I often find the delay is when they have contacted vets for adfitional info such as breakdown of a specialists cost thats where the delay is

I recommend you ring and find out. I'm with Petplan and they seem to only have a policy of contacting you if there is a problem. I haven't received ANY correspondence confirming they are paying my claim although they have paid my claim for over £4000 so far first bill to my account then directly to vets. I had to ring them to find out. They don't seem to tell you anything unless you ring them maybe NFU are the same? I've had a lot of problems with the vets and Petplan having no communication with me. Vets said they had sent stuff Petplan said they never received it. I thought all was ok and didn't know the bill was unpaid until the vets rang me about it and want to charge interest which I am currently refusing to pay as I completed everything required. So on that experience I'm never going to leave it to someone else ever again.

Don't get me started on nfu, I had terrible experience (hopefully a one off) but took them ages to get back to me and took ages to decide if they were actually going to pay (due to previous injury on same leg, but unrelated to current issue). They did pay in full in the end but I had to keep calling, twice a week most weeks, they kept saying they would get back to me the same day and never did. Not impressed, cancelling my policy when it's due for renewal

Nfu have been great with my claim, it went in December 2013 and they paid vet direct no quibbles and were quick to confirm claim OK. Was over a year ago though so maybe they are busier now!

I currently have a claim ongoing since September and am finding they are being very slow to pay out the latest fee invoices from the vets

Im waiting for payment for a bill from the start of December. I rang them and was told they are working through a large backlog and they said they are quoting 30 days from invoice to payment.

One thing to remember is, they will received hundreds of claims and bits of post a week, so it may take time to go through and would be hard to acknowledge every claim. Generally if further information is needed a call to the vet would be made, but if no answer received or they don't get an answer same day they will write a letter. However, they should write to let you know that they have contacted your vet for further info.

Some inside info as someone who used to work for one of the companies mentioned, if they write for further info, when that is received your claim then gets put into a pile and is in order the post was received. So if they received 100 pieces of post on a Tuesday, then your claim info was received Wednesday, it would be sitting behind the 100 claims received day before. Basically they are dealt with in the order they are received.

I would just call them to find out what is happening

My horse had an expensive trip to newmarket and it took NFU ages to decide if they were going to settle the claim and then ages again to actually pay the invoices. I was really worried and phoned them all the time. They 'lost' certain letters and invoices and also 'didn't receive' other things. It was really odd as a few years ago when I had my last claim they were so efficient.

I had a bad experience with the NFU years ago and was amazed how many others had had the same.

Now I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, even if they offered free insurance.

I am now with the CLA and apart from having to deal with half a dozen companies (I think they subcontract) when settling a recent claim, I cannot praise them enough.
