In your experience how long does it usually take for the NFU to send a claim form out?

My horse died on saturday, I phoned them first thing monday morning and now its friday and I haven't recieved one. I'm sure they were more efficient than this when I had a claim on injured horse a couple of years ago.

Sorry to hear your loss.

Whenever we've claimed its been for something else, but yes they usually have taken a couple of days, might be worth giving them a nudge?

Hi Penfold. I presume you have lost a horse recently. Did you have a post-mortum? If so how much did that cost (roughly)? Sorry if too sensitive a question.

Any idea if NFU might pay for saddle? (think Rusty managed to break tree either in fall / or as he lay squishing saddle for 2 & half hours)

Oh SDH, you poor thing! I'm so sorry to hear of your loss :(

Can you download a claim form from the website? If you have saddlery and tack cover then your saddle should be covered in this instance.

I am in exactly the same boat as you. On Wed 5th My horse went to hospital. She died the following day. I called NFU on Wednesday to advise them what was happening. They said the form would take 3 days. When I called again, they said it would take 5 days. It arrived on the 13th, so it took over a week. The strange thing is that Liphook hospital have still not given me the bill. Despite their signs saying I could not leave without paying. I am still waiting for the PM results, and I have no idea of the cost of any of it...

An update:
NFU tell me claim form was put in the post this morning. (Whatever i think they are sending the tea boy to the post box with it now).
Asked about saddle, they will pay for repairs / compensate if irrepairable. Quite suprised at this!!(Pleased not the right word, more like one less thing to worry about)

I've just requested an NFU claim form (horse coliced on Tuesday night) and was told 5 working days :)

Sorry to hear about your horse :(

Usually about a week.

I didn't need to fill in a claim form when my boy died last year because I already had a vets claim going through. Don't know if that helps you at all. My vet just gave them a call and siad he was PTS in accorance with defra guidelines and had to fax the date he died (that really annoyed me as they could have just got it off the invoice!)

If it makes you feel any better, they didn't query the amount I had him valued for (£3k for a 17yr old schoomaster NF pony). Took a little while for cheque to come, but no hassle from them which I had been dreading (justying his value or something).

I have just had a sizeable vets fees claim met by the NFU. When I told them mine was going to a livery yard, just to keep them informed, they said I could claim for horsewalker and half livery as well, if the horsewalker was recommended by the vet (it was). I have just had my cheque so very pleased about that.

My boy died whilst I was out riding (major blood vessel in his gut ruptured leading to heart attack) it was so unexpected & quick that didnt even get chance to get a vet to him!
He was 17 also, so yes that does help - I am worried they will tell me he wasn't worth anything/justify value (only insured for 2k, i actually bought him for £1)

So sorry to hear about your horse.

I asked for a claims for and it took about 2weeks for it to come, my mare has just been diagnosed with lami x

I've lost four horses and three of which were through NFU. In my experience I think it took between 3-5 days on each occasion for the claim form to come through. Then it usually took about 7 -10 days for teh claim to be settled on receipt of the claim form from me. Not sure of cost of PM but would probably be in the region of £250/£300.

Sorry to hear your loss hun x
