NFU have just rang me to ask if I will take part in a feedback market research interview based on feedback from me in respect of their products and services. I have been promised its not a hard sell and its just to tell them what I think of their products and services.

For an hour of my time they are going to pay me £50 in cash on the night. I am chuffed as it will come in handy at Xmas!

But I am also a little sceptical about the whole thing. Its weird how they have picked me as I rang them up yesterday to insure my prize saddle with them that I have won in a competition and I mentioned that i wouldn't be using them come my equine insurance renewal in Jan 2013 as I'd had various quotations at Your Horse Live and got much better prices on my premium.

Has anyone ever taken part in their market research before? My friend thinks I am being silly worrying but I am really just being cautious and sensible.

What do you think, reason to be cautious, or just go for it!!!

I work in the research industry. You can always ring up the contact number you have been given and ask if an "independent market researcher" will be doing the interview and if that researcher is a Market Research Society member (in which case they have to abide by a strict code of conduct, including no sales pitches and making sure that what they report does not attribute opinions or quotes to named individuals). I'd be a bit skeptical if someone from NFU itself was doing the interview as that's a big research no-no.

The £50 incentive payment sounds about right and it may well be that the researchers are wanting to talk to people who are thinking about leaving to understand what has led them to their decision and that their report will help NFU improve their customer service, quotes etc. to stop other people leaving in the future.

A few years ago I was contacted through H & H after doing one of their surveys to attend a research evening about feeding on behalf of Dengie. All above board and we each got paid £50. Take the money! We quite enjoyed it.
