They near enough doubled my premium in Feb, so I shopped around and found the same cover available for £150 less with kbis. I argued with the nfu customer advisor a few times to try and get them to reduce their premium, but to no avail.

I stayed.... KBIS only £10 cheaper and wanted her vetted. SEIB £100 more and Petplan £200 more!!!!

We worked out that it was only a £80 increase because we had a double mutual bonus this year, so if you only took off a single bonus that was the increase.

Mine increased with NFU by 45%, rang them up to check and they got back to me that a claim was still on the system as was my mum and 3 saddles that I had told them i no longer owned. My increase in now about 13 pounds rather than over 40 quid. They did say that their premiums had gone up this year

My premium went up a bit but not as much as some, so I revised my cover & stayed. Very stupidly I cancelled the insurance for my veteran as he never has accidents so thought it was a waste of money. Few weeks later he got kicked in the face and it cost me about £1k :(

Part of the reason I stayed is that I've been with NFU for a long time and have made several claims on that time. They have alway paid out quickly and without quibbles and have never put any exclusions on my policy. Next year all the other insurers may whack their prices up & if you've moved from NFU, you've lost your mutual bonus that you've built up over the years.

I have heard good thing about KBIS, from someone who worked from them.
NFU on the other hand seem to have gone downhill over the last year or so, they have messed my friend about something rotten over two claims. I don't think I'd use them now even if they did put the prices back down. They say they are putting it up because they are losing equine customers, well, poor customer service tends to have that result!Q

Changed to KBIS - great vets cover and heard good things, now just hope I don't have to make a claim to find out how good they are of course!!

Mine went up nearly 50% despite no claims. Phoned Julie Andrews insurance broker after seeing her recommended many times. And she saved us a considerable amount of money for comparable cover. Always liked NFU but not at those prices!

I have a claim in now with the NFU, rang 2 weeks ago to ask if they have received forms and unvoices they yes on 25 June. Rang yesterday to see how the claim was going as I'd heard nothing. Was told they had received the forms on the 25 July. Someone is telling porkies, not impressed.

Mine hasn't gone up yet. It is due for renewal in October so will see if they increase it drastically then I will move. Does anyone know what age veteran is for NFU if you have had a policy with them already in place. I have never claimed in the three years I have been with them.

Mine was going to go up by £10 a month (this is with mutual bonus too as had been with them for around 6 years and the only claim was several years ago!) so I thought "sod that" and switched to petplan who are charging me old price albeit with eleventy odd exclusions.

mine had doubled in price, have been with them for 5 years. Have cancelled it and will insure them both with kbis when i have the funds, or i will continue to put some away each month. i have had nothing but hassle with nfu and my recent claim and dont know if i can be bother with it all again! id rather put it away each month and use that to pay up than pay an insurance every month and them refuse to pay and have to fork the money out.

Mine has gone up aswell an extra 36 quid for both of my horses so now its about 70 pounds for each horse for cover i have, but they have provided a good service for me and have always paid up when i have claimed. i wont change been with them for about 12 years now and iv never had a problem with them, but it is alot of money but i would rather pay that then change and go to someone who is cheaper and find they wont pay out

Mine went up a lot. However the cost of getting both horses the 5* vetting required to change to cheaper insurers would have eaten up the saving so I was basically stuck.

Cancelled house and tractor policy with NFU and old boys insurance as was only PL and death and after having been bitten on the the BEVA restriction with OH's mare when we lost her (tendon gone and still not BEVA approved!)

Took PL off youngsters and joined BD instead - £60 per horse with NFU - £40 for BD Non Competing

Just need to ring round the other companies to insure the 3 horses and lorry and see who comes in best.

Its probably my yard's fault. We're mostly with NFU and we've had some very big claims recently :( I'm certainly getting my money's worth at the moment although I don't look forward to seeing what my renewal price will be.

I am taking out gold BHS membership with hubby to get PL for the horses and am putting away £5000 for emergencies. This will take a while, but should I have something happen, I will put it on a credit card and then do a nil interest transfer to another one and pay it off.

BHS joint membership is £99 and my insurance for the two was nearly £800 last year.

Does anyone know what age veteran is for NFU if you have had a policy with them already in place.

Their veteran cover starts at 17yrs, but if you have cover with them already they will more than likely offer to continue with normal full cover (like they did with my mare this year, she is still too well and active IMO to drop to veteran cover).

My cover did increase slightly but nowhere near as much as those on here are quoting, guess it may jump in March.

Cancelled NFU insurance which did not stop them collecting the next monthly premium. Phoned and was told somebody would ring me up. Am going to call them again as nobody has been in touch.
Got personal liability cover by joining Arab Horse Society for £49. Savings earmarked for any vet bills.
