Nothing has happened yet, my horse is being referred to Rossdales for further investigation and it's likely that they will want to do an MRI. So I was wondering what other experiences people have had with NFU and MRI scans having read my insurance policy (will be ringing them to let them know tomorrow).
They agreed mine with no problem, I just phoned and they gave permission over the phone - I took the girls name and noted date and time of agreement just to be on the safe side though!
My horse had one in Sept last year and I phoned them to ok it beforehand. Not had a problem and shes off for a re-scan next week (tear to ddft in hoof). I phoned them yesterday and advised them and took the persons name. They have paid 50% as above.
I think it is clearly stated on my policy with them. I was wincing at the cost circa £900 at my local vet then I took the dog to Glasgow Uni to have an MRI for neck problems and it was £1500 with full anaesthetic!!!!!! (Sainsbury's Pet Insurance paid the lot though!!). Given that horses are on standing sedation and it can be immensley time consuming to get them to stay still enough in the right position it suddenly seems reasonable against the charge for the dog!!
I had both front feet done at Bell Equine for about £1100. I seem to remember just having one done wasn't much cheaper (maybe £900??).
It varies a bit depending on whether they have to resedate and try again but I think they quoted between £1000 and £1200.
We were at the higher end as they had to have 2 gos but i did get a 10% discount for paying my half on the day with my credit card.
They have an info sheet about the process which I'm sure would be similar whereever you go. http://www.bellequine.co.uk/mri.html http://www.bellequine.com/infosheetsdownlo.php#mri
