NFU passing on to Equine First

We've just put a claim through to NFU recently for our boy, and received a letter back stating that this has been passed onto Equine First to investigate further. What's there to investigate? Is this normal for NFU as I was under the impression they were pretty straight forward.

Has anyone else had this similar response to a claim, or is there something I need to be concerned about?

Someone else posted recently that their NFU claim had been passed to EF as well. Maybe they are snowed under?

I had a terrible experience with Equine First (they took over all of the old Equestrian Direct claims, when they went out of business). The girl who does the horsey stuff is awful, doesn't know a thing about horses and it takes her months to even acknowledge the documents you/your vet sends in. Keep on their case - I finally got a cheque in October last year for vet bills from January, and that was only because I had to get the FSA and Financial Ombudsman involved. If you call them the first time to chase, don't bother calling back when they don't return your call (which they won't). Start writing emails and letters (send them Recorded Delivery when you write, so that they can't claim they haven't received them, which they did to me) - I found that if they ignore you the first time, they will continue to ignore you. I will cry if my current insurance company ever start passing things on to EF! :(

Yes, it's normal.
Equine First are a nightmare to deal with and seem to work slower than slow. You will have to chase them up.

I had my claim accepted by EF and then they get NFU to pay, so it's just another cog in the macine.

It's standard at the moment and nothing to worry about. I've just had my claim paid that had been handed to EF.....it's due to NFU being so snowed under with claims, and to help them get on top of a backlog that was causing massive delays.

At least, that's what both NFU and EF told me over the phone when I asked!

Thanks for such quick responses all. It sounds im not the only one out there who this has happened to.
Its also great to know that my insurance company is now outsourcing work just like my phone, broadband, tv and bank.......!

My NFU claim has also been sent to equine first... I've had lots of problems with late and wrong payments to me and my vets, and had to spend many fruitless hours writing emails and trying to talk to people on the phone... the reason I went with NFU in the first place was to avoid all this!!

I must have been lucky then as I had no problems with Equine First.

The claim had the potential to be void as my mare had foot problems 3 years ago and has subsequently been diagnosed with navicular. I almost didn't send it in but thought it was worth a chance, vets did complete history printout for them, it was all totally transparent and Equine First recommended that NFU pay.

I think they were slow to get payment to vet but otherwise I have no argument with them

When I claimed last year with the NFU, I had the letter about Equine First. I rang them to enquire and they said it was because they were too busy so got another company in to help them.

Hopefully things should be nice and smooth with them. Also, in the letter I received says that Equine First wish to arrange an appointment to come out and see us. That can't be normal????
