Decided to get up at the crack of dawn this morning as I knew I'd not have time to ride this evening...
I headed to the yard at 5am - had three horses to muck out and fill nets for. Decided to ride first, easier to muck once they were all out in the field. So tacked up the big girl and deliberated whether to ride in the dark (it really was pitch dark) or whether to turn some of the lights on and risk waking the YO and their family. Decided to go out in the dark for the first time (didn't want to wake everyone). Our arena fence is white so I could make out the outline of where I was going also, because I'd been the last person in the school yesterday, I knew where all the uprights etc were!
Turned out to be a really productive session. Our little mare can be really looky and quite spooktacular, so it can be hard to get her to focus her attention on you. In the pitch dark, everything was quiet and still, so she was much more focused. Overall, it was a great outing. Very pleased with her! So took her back to stable, untacked, chucked them all out. I then managed to cram in a gym session on the way home, then back to the house, 2 cups of tea and a nice hot shower later and I was feeling good, and made it to work at 8.15am. Feel like superwoman today! Suspect I won't though by the time it gets to 4pm... might be ready for bed by then
