Nighttime checks livery

I think it makes a difference if someone is living on site. The couple of times (in 12 years) that we've had a problem overnight (cast horse and panicking horse stuck to haynet with rug clip!) I've heard the commotion and gone out to investigate.

Sods law with horses if you did a late check at 11pm they'd get into trouble at 11.20pm and they'd still be left until 6-7am !

If mine are in I skip out just before bed, somehow it makes a massive difference to how messy the bed is in the morning - 5 mins of effort saves 20mins in the morning.

We were on DIY livery for many years with no night checks. Very lucky and privileged to have them at home now and can see them from the bedroom window so don't usually go out after 6pm.

I have to be careful not to be spotted by husband's horse in the morning (he sees the blinds being opened) or he will call which sets off my door kicker.

I also know this pain. Discovered the pony can hear my alarm going off and neighs loudly. I’m not sure whether to be impressed by his hearing or unimpressed at our cottages clear lack of insulation

Me too! I love doing lates, its my favourite time, all dark and quiet, it feels like the time I get to come close to entering their world. To be practical, I also skip out and give more hay its the last thing I do before going to bed, and I never, ever tire of it.

From what I know, you're a pro rider, and it's so refreshing to read your posts because your love for your horses just shines through, I noticed it on the photo a day thread too. I hope that's not too weird to say!

I know a livery where they are finished by 4pm, probably at the latest I don't agree with that, thats a long time for a horse to be colicking or whatever.
Mine are at home and I finish them in winter at about 6pm I guess. I don't specifically go check them after this because the one in particular would then expect somethig when he see's me and start banging or getting restless. I can hear them from my bedroom and the window over looks the stables so although dark I always have a peep out. Mr P has a everyone alive and standing check at about 9pm when he go's outside to lock up gates and chickens. Apparently they dont expect him to give them anything so dont care!

A camera would be a brilliant option for a horse at livery!

Aww we had a gorgeous little horse who would be staring at my bedroom window every morning when i sneaked over to have a peak at them. I wonder if he hear my alarm! I just assumed he stood and stared til he got lucky!

We had stable cameras in the old barn and some people truly ripped the piss out of it. Messaging the YO after midnight that someone had left horses feed bucket in the stable, why were they put out half an hour late on the weekend, that the horse was stressed by YO arriving late home from a night out, which might have been her birthday.

So we didn't get cameras in the new barn One for security only. Don't blame the YO at all honestly.

Not too weird at all! Very kind, thank you. I really appreciate you saying that, its true, I do really love all my horses, its lovely if someone else recognizes it, and I hope feels the same.

We have a full DIY yard and whoever is there last (usually about 8:30pm) does final checks. First person who arrives in the morning about 5:30am checks everyone too x
