hello all,

Whilst looking for a new horse I've stumbled across a mare advertised which claims to be by Nijinsky out of Virginia Hills, given the price of the mare I was a little bit shocked at the apparent quality of the breeding (I have very little interest in breeding but even Ive heard of Nijinsky!!) so Ive done a bit of Googling which tells me that Nijinsky died in 1992... as the mare is advertised as being 15 I figure there is something possibly dodgy going on.

however I don't know enough about the breeding scene to really be able to tell if the seller is completely making up the bloodlines or lying about the age of the mare or if in fact it is possible that she does have these bloodlines... so i thought I would ask the experts as it were, before wasting my time and the sellers by going to look at her.

any help would be appreciated - I may go and see her anyway as she sounds like my type but would like to know how likely the breeding is to be true as it would make me wonder what else the seller had been inventive with if that did turn out to be false!

thank you in advance for reading.

Well Virginia Hills on Weatherby records was a 1971 foal
Dam Name YOF Sex Pedigree
Virginia Hills (USA) 1971 F Tom Rolfe - Ridin' Easy (USA)
She has a colt Niniski (USA) 1976 C Nijinsky (CAN) - Virginia Hills (USA) - Perhaps that is what they mean, this filly is by Niniski not Nijinksy?

If this is from the same add then I think you have mis-read "potential broodmare as she has fantastic bloodlines , nijinsky , northern dancer , and virginia hill" It states bloodlines but not that she is by Nijinsky.

My old loan horse was from the same bloodlines. Sire: Petoski, Grandsire: Niniski, Great Grandsire: Nijinsky, great great grandsire: Northen Dancer.
Master was a rubbish racer but is a fantastic riding horse - enjoys his work, looks after his rider but can be quite spooky and energetic! He's a beautiful horse and has a beautiful personality to match! He taught me so much and although I see him daily, I miss him and the relationship that we once had!
Bloodlines aren't everything....every horse is an individual no matter where or what they come from. Apparently Northen Dancer was quite a nasty piece of work to handle but Master is one of the sweetest horses I have ever come across! Master's bllodline suggests that he should have been a successful racer but he only raced once and came 15th out of 18!! However, having said that, if I ever came across another horse by Petoski I would seriously consider buying it because I've heard that all his offspring are very sweet and gentle.
Where can I find the advert to the horse you're looking at?

Guessing for some reason she has given breeding of sire rather then actual mare. If Virginia Hills did re-visit Nijinsky in '94/'95 (not sure if 15yrs is from 2010 or 2011) then the foal is not recorded with Weatherbys. Probably therefore by Niniski & could well be an unamed offspring. A friend was very lucky as using this site we were able to get some background info on a mare she had seen which meant she was able to walk away without feeling, what if. If she does interest you then I would try to get her name & if she is unnamed the name of her dam.
