Nissan Navara as a towing car?

I have been looking into getting one of these, does anyone use one to tow or use on in general and how do you find it running costs etc?

I would be pulling 1 x 17hh MW - perhaps another if the car could take it.

I want to do as much investigating as possible before I even think of a test drive!!

My OH has one - he tows my trailer sometimes, but he also has a 15ft Ifor flatbed for his work. he loves towing with the Navara! It will do about 28 MPG when towing about a ton, so not too bad. They're proper work vehicles, so you shouldnt have a problem!

and its lully to drive....although the steering i what i would call 'baggy' - think they have modified this in recent models though. OH finds it amusing that little girlie can drive big truck!

i tow with one of the nissan navara aventura pick ups. it is automatic and i love it. used to use a shogun and i find it is much more economical (engine has been chipped though) giving me over 30+miles to the gallon. and a better BHP. this tows much more smoothly. highly rated
 
Sweet - well dont get too jealous yet its just a thought at the mo - Ive currently got a lorry which is great but my little car is taking a hammering doing the yard etc etc so was thinking of killing two bird with one stone and getting a 4x4 and trailer!
 
Hmmm, sorry to rain on all these positive posts, but someone I know has one and has had nothing but trouble with it. It can't get through a week without breaking down at least a couple of times (it's a not a year old yet), and it has been in and out of Nissan numerous times and still they can't seem to sort it out.
It may just be a bad 'one' though!
 
I pull my Ifor Williams trailer and 16.2hh warmblood with one and I absolutely adore it. It pulls the trailer exceptionally well, but I personally wouldn't put two large horses in a trailer.

I haven't found the insurance to be too expensive - if you shop around you should be able to get a decent price.

Because the back end is relativily light when you don't have a trailer on, the back end can slip out slightly if you go round a corner too fast on the wet road, but you soon get used to it.

Running costs arn't too bad for a 4X4, but probably not the most economical car for a run around!

It is also a bit tricky to park in tight spots!

When I got mine, it didn't have a hard top on the pickup part so I just had the four seats in the double cab to put all my stuff, tack, passengers and dog on! However, I have managed to get a hard top and now I have absolutely loads of room for all my stuff. If you are looking to get a Nissan Navara, I would suggest that you try to get one with a hard top already on.
 
no the insurance is not to bad, i have 65% NCD and pay £575.00. mine is nearly 2 years old and never had no problems with it. it has sat nav which is brilliant for the shows, leather interior and loads of extras. as for the hard top don't buy a nissan one there is a place that we found on the internet that does one called a carryboy it is already painted the colour of your van and has proper sliding windows, lights, etc. they supply and fit for a fraction of the cost.
 
You'll have to tell me where they are from - the carryboy ones!

Love my Navarra, tows like a dream, drives nice, decent MPG. Insurance just over £500. I tow 2 x 16hh no problem at all.

I love being a girly truck driver! Oh and the back fits a big round bale in perfectly!
 
I borrow my dad's to tow my Ifor Williams, it's great.
Good points:
1) Tows very well, even in muddy fields
2) Reasonably economical, much more so than the Shogun I used to use
3) Lots of space for tack etc in the pick up tray

Bad points:
1) 'Baggy' steering!
2) Turning circle of about 2 miles...

can't comment on cost of vehicle or insurance as it's my dad's...

interesting, you've found exactly the same as me with the steering! its a bit strange, OH's truck has been in to Nissan several times to see if there's a prob, but its all legal! turning circle is AWFUL!!!!

and agree about the shogun, too - mum has a shogun sport, we did the MPG the other day and its managing to do.......

18!!!!!
