Unless you want a pickup a new navara is more expensive than a Kia Sorento and costs more to run.

If you can get the VAT back, an isuzu rodeo is very good value for money.

Personally, wouldn't tow with one of these if it meant saving my life. Have never sat in a car with more bouncy suspension in my entire life. Unless you have a lot of weight in the actual back of the truck then your trailer will bounce all over the road. My friend transported my horse by trailer in his new Nevera and He's a bloody good driver and that was on reasonably straight flat roads and even he was worried. I think the likelyhood of getting a snake on is very high so wouldn't personally go for one.

my friend traded in her Land rover for a Nevarra as it was supposed to be very good to tow with, it certainly felt ok the couple of times I was with her (510 and two big horses)

However she would moan cos it didnt fit in a parking space at supermarket/multi storey car parks....

Cazza - was that the New Navara or the old one?

The New one has been completely overhauled, is heavier and has bigger payload and towing capacity.

I wouldn't like to tow with a old style toyota hilux so the same reasons, as they are so light on the back end unladen.

It was the new one, sorry don't mean to scare you but it really does bounce behind unless the carrier part of the truck is fully laden. We had the standard Ifor Williams behind it with one 15.2hh and a 16.1hh in the trailer and didn't like the feel. I have always been a Land Rover tower so may well have been spoilt. If you get a chance see if the garage will let you test drive with a trailer so you can decide for yourself.

I have a Navarra and it tows like a dream - an ifor Williams 510 with two 17HH horses. Sits on the road - no bounce- no snaking. I have towed with Disco's, Defenders, Mitsubuishi Animal. Jeep Cherokee and have found this far superior. Mine is a 4 year old model - not the new one, but I would certainly buy a new one over the other double cabs that are available.

Hi Bosworth, with your big trailer on the back and two large horses probably help keep it all more stable, ours are polo ponies so although they are a reasonable height they don't have the weight and fit in a smaller lighter trailer so I expect this made a lot of difference in our journey.

I have a new Navaro and it has always towed beautifully! I have only ever known it be anything approaching 'bouncy', when towing an EMPTY trailer. I tow most weekends 2 x 15.2 in a Wessex Olympian and find it totally stable and smooth. Horses are totally happy travelling in it and always arrive relaxed. I have even installed a camera in the trailer so that i could keep an eye on them for my own peace of mind, and the horses never look as though they are bouncing around, just trying to eat each others haynets!
I can only assume that there must have been something seriously wrong with that particular vehicles suspension to feel as bad as described, as I have always felt totally safe driving it whether towing or not. My husband owns a garage and also uses the Navaro for towing his motorbikes around at weekends and would definately have complained if he wasn't 100% happy with it.

Hi
Not a full on test review but I have a new Navara (D40 D/C ) and a IW 510 . I have only towed it when I brought it , i.e no horse inside!, and had no problems at all. I live in Isle of Man, believe me there are are some serious hills here , including hairpins

Also Ithink the make of trailer has a lot to do with the bounce. I towed a bateson the other week - loaded with 2 horses and god that was hideous, I think the trailer must have been too light as have never had either the IW505 or the IW510 snake, but the bateson was all over the place and then started to wag the car.

I have had a similar snaking problem with the Bahill as well which is also a light trailer so it could be that that is the problem rather than the Navarra

I was also going to add - i frequently tow my trailer empty - on my way to collect hay and various other things and don't have a bouce problem with it empty - I would suggest that the suspension on the Navarra you were in needs checking - it doesn't sound normal

No problems with mine either! It drives the same empty as with a large haylage bale in the back!

And I drove it from here down to Peterborough and back - about a 400 mile journey - with one 15hh in it - its fine!

And living in N Yorks, believe me we have hills! Never had any issues towing it empty, half empty or full - and I have a very lightweight Cheval Liberte 2003XL. though it has pullman suspension which helps it tow very smoothly indeed.

I also took just me and ponio up to Durham on my own - lots of snakey little roads as well as dual carriageways which I tow at 60 on, and been out on quite windy days - and its been 100%.
