Hi

Does anyone tow with a Nissan Terrano, I am thinking of buying a second hand one to pull a Ifor 505 or 510.

Also, what is the best low cost tow car?

Any thoughts / advice would be great.

I tow with my Terrano, I have a 17.1 IDxTB and a 510 I also carry a 15.1 welshie with my boy and the terrano tows like a train. I love mine as for reliability mine has been fantastic for the last 4 years.

I have one my sons call it the sh@t mobile but its reliable and tows well..Cleaner on the outside than in.I have 2.7 diesel and it easily pulls two horses.

Beware the gear boxes they are a car gear box in a 4x4 vehicle.

My friend and I both suffered gear box problem her with a terano me with a maverick (fords version of the same car ) hers went twice and mine 3 times within two years! suffice to say we both got rid she got a box and I got a more reliable proper 4x4.

Only happened when I towed of road though, so if you are liable to remain on road then maybe.

My fantastic next door neighbours |(non-horsy) let me borrow their SWB Terrano 3.0TD, as I have yet to buy a 4x4; whenever I need to tow my Deauville and it's fantastic.
Drives like a car and you barely register that there's a trailer attached.
|I've towed with a swb 90 Defender which would prob be my favourite for pure no nonsense muscle (grew up with Defenders so slightly biased) but the Terrano wins on comfort and noise!!

Have also towed with an Isuzu pickup which I didn't really rate in comparison to the Terrano or landrover- too big and overall length was too long to be able to easily reverse and manouvre in my opinion.

Ive a teranno 2 and its fab, tows 2 min 16hhs and is fab. Gear blox isn't a prob at all, tows better than it dreives. Much better than some 4x4

We have one, this is our second one - we tow with ours every weekend pretty much and its excellent. We've just bought a Touareg however so if you want a 2nd hand Terrano... it is for sale! I love our Terrano but have to say our Touareg tows the trailer as if nothing is attached to it...however it also costs way more in diesal!

Thanks for all your replies, good to know you all recommend them, dont see many of them at shows.

Just need to find a good cheap second hand one.

Thanks

Hi - you need to steer clear of one that's done about 60,000 as that is when all the electrics, gear box etc start to play up. I brought a complete nightmare and spent a fortune on it before trading it in for something else.

I'd go for a Kia or a Defender if I needed a 4 x 4 again!

Yup that would tie up with my maverick and my friends terano milage was about that.

Personally I would stick to one of the meatier 4x4's that are built to last.

This is mine. It's a 55 plate. It's my third Terrano/Maverick combo now.

Our old Maverick did suffer gearbox issues, but drove another 20k with a noisy gearbox. We could've had it mended for about £550, but decided to just upgrade anyway as it was a 1995 model.

The other Terrano we have is also a 1995 plate, SWB, and belongs to my father in law. I used to own it with my ex-husband, and we'd bought it in 1999 so I know all of it's history. It's currently on £140k on the clock and still has it's original gearbox.

I think like every car, there is good and bad and alot depends on how well previous owners have looked after it and what type of work they've done with the car.

I love mine. It's great to drive and tows my trailer and horses really well. We also tow the cow trailer with ours which is a more unstable weight (as the cows aren't tied like horses). Handles them with ease too.
