This is what happened just after surgery (made me want to cry as it was bigger than before she went in to have the lump removed )

And this is a couple of nights ago

A couple of people have said they think it is looking better so I'm hoping I'm not totally imagining it! What do you all reckon. Much difference between two and three, I know I don't take the best photos so it can be hard to say.

I am almost optimistic about it! Almost. The first photo is so huge though. I'd forgotten it was quite that big. Poor little Nits :( she is moving much better on it now. I watched her charge up the field today and you'd hardly know there was any problem now. :)

How is your horse with the abscess faracat?

Thanks for asking. I'm a bit gutted at the moment because it's popped at the coronet again. :( I'd really hoped that the new growth would stay abscess free now, but I'm poulicing again. I keep telling myself not to give up and the farrier said he can pop by on monday if I'm worried, so I'm trying to just keep going. :)

How long since original injury/surgery?

Yes, it's definitely improving; if there is bone remodelling involved it can be 12 - 18 months until you get a clearer picture.

O bless you F. You'll get there I'm sure. These horribly drawn out messes they get into can really grind you down though can't they? You think you're coping with it fine and then it all seems to go wrong again and it really knocks you. Or perhaps I'm just a hopeless hysterical fool!

Rhino, the original injury was April. It was nothing, a little cut with a tiny, tiny foreign body (too small to show on x-ray, could just be seen on scan) which blew up and refused to go down. The swelling was one side of the problem but after six months the wound still wouldn't close properly and would periodically re-open so she went for surgery to remove the capsule with the foreign body in which had formed. I didn't think leaving an open cut on a horse prone to cellulitis was really an option.

The op must have been a few months now I think. Everything went reasonably well but then she had a reaction to her internal stitches which is why it is so huge in the first pic. She spat a few stitches about three weeks ago and had a bit of a discharge where a new hole opened up but since then the wound has closed totally and the swelling has started to go down. The internal stitches should just about all be dissolved by now so hopefully it'll continue to go down.

Do you have access to an equissage? I have seen it work wonders on a very similar injury :)

I would be fairly optimistic; plenty of time to really make a difference :)

Before surgery she had ultrasound on it to try and force it to break up and it did seem to have some effect on it. I guess equissage would be a slightly less extreme version of the same sort of thing? My vets advice was just to massage it twice daily by hand, I don't *think* I know anyone that has one but will ask around just incase. Every little helps and all that :) She is a very tolerant little filly and will let me try most things on her bless her little cottons

Well we can't ALL be imagining it can we?! She had better come right as BH is in the dog house and I'd much rather deal with her!

Oh dear, what had BH done?

I think it looks better too. :) So glad that she's showing signs of improvement after such a worrying time for you.

O Puppy, what hasn't he done?!

This weekend he has destroyed a fleece rug, broken a headcollar, snapped two lead ropes and kicked me this morning (not hard but that is really not the point). The kick earned him a broom up his bottom and a serious stint in the dog house! And all this because I clipped him yesterday. I do wish he wouldn't hold such a grudge. Miserable old git. I'm sure he'll cheer up again in the next couple of days. He always gets a bit testy in winter, it's just him but it is incredibly frustrating when's he been such a good chap recently.

Thanks all for saying you can see it too. I feel much better about it this week.

And here she is, just being her beautiful self this morning :)

C1, you do talk rot. You'd be fine to ride her. Once she's backed obviously. Wouldn't recommend it quite yet, but I will get her going in the spring. She's quite a nice pudding really. Much better than that brown thing of mine
