a bit contraversial but i am looking for a new horse at the moment and the amount of ads that are around with people riding with no hats on are amazing! personally it actually puts me off to see someone riding without one, just think its irresponsible and pikey!! Maybe its cos i am a boring mum with a tb but just dont get it! Is it just me !!!!!!!!!

Really?
I couldnt care less- actually I think it shows the horse is unlikely to do something spontaneously drastic!!

I think the dont wear hats to make the horse seem 'safe'-it often seems to be dealers that dont wear them and they know the tricks of the trade

I think that hats should always be worn when riding, but it doesn't put me off in an add as it doesn't effect how good the horse is.
It just means their owner is a bit silly, or not very bothered about safety!

Doesnt bother me in the slightest, as everyone has said it shows that the horse must be remotely sensible. I very rarely ride without one as the yard im at im not allowed not to, but in occasion i used to jump on if i knew the horse well. Alot of the top riders dont wear hats for schooling so i dont think they cud be classed as pikeys!

it wouldnt put me 'off'seeing a horse at all, n do think if u choose not to wear a hat then is up to u, BUT i am a mum and think the professional riders who the kids look up to, i wish would (those in the public eye\instructors) infact i would beg them to, if just to stop one young girl/chap seeing them in a mag doing the same and falling ect!! If u know your going to be seen in a mag it would just take a millisecond to pop a hat on?? yes/no???

It is very naive of anyone to think that just because someone is riding without a hard hat the horse must be fairly safe. ALL horses can be unpredictable at times and anyone riding without a hat is either totally arrogant or totally stupid (most likely both). Most will say 'it is up to them', but what about the innocent child (or adult) that witnesses somone falling off and obtaining horrific head injuries, what about the paramadics who have to attend and the hospital staff who have to look after them. Not to mention the upset, worry and heartache caused to friends and family. Someone i know rides regularly without a hat and her horse is a total nutcase and she is completely irresponnsible in my view. No it wouldnt put me off a horse, its not the horses fault, but it would put me off the rider!!
