So, im with my (leashed) dog across the road from my flat letting him have a sniff around after a car journey. Nissan micra approaches from my left doing about 20mph when suddenly a neighbours dog appears going full pelt toward me. The driver didnt stand a chance and BANG! hits the dog. The dog got up and ran home and his owner appeared from around the corner of the flats (he'd been in the communal garden around the back & was on his way back in to his flat)
The poor woman driving the car was in a terrible state, shaking and crying and apologising to the owner, who said it was the dogs fault for running out into the road. Fair play to him, he gave her his details and said he'd pay for the damage to the car (cracked wing & possibly damaged washer bottle as there was water pouring from the engine compartment, had a look and it seemed to be the washer bottle)
He said the dog was ok, just limping a bit and i told him id run him to the vet, but he said he'd wait and see if dog showed any ill effects. He told driver again it wasnt her fault, the dog was always running off when he gets the chance! He went in to make the driver a drink whilst i stayed with her and told her what had happened and that there was nothing she could have done to avoid hitting the dog. She didnt live far away so said she'd walk home and get her dad to pick the car up as she was too shaken to drive.
Dog owner reappeared with drink in hand and the dog running around his feet NOT ON A LEAD!!! Soon as the dog saw me he charged across the road again, luckily no cars this time and i grabbed hold of him.
Owner "look at him, he just doesnt learn, he's all over the road again"
Me: "he's not the only one who doesnt learn, why isnt he on a bloody lead??!!"
Owner just grunted and took the dog inside and i came home shaking my head in disbelief
