No Mane!

Over the winter my girl has lost half of her mane. I know this is due to her winter rugs (the neck covers) rubbing and used a duvet instead to keep her warm this winer... this hasnt helped much either!

I was wondering if anyone knows of a feed supplement or cream which promotes hair growth??
 
my friend has just put her horse on biotin which is helping her skin and coat, her pony rubs her mane and makes it itchy so a vicious circle starts, the biotin is helping to stop the itching which has stopped the mare rubbing, the plan is that her mane will now start to grow in again! I use garlic to stop my pony itching, i dont know of anything you can use to actually promote the hair growth though biotin may help with this - sorry not that much help!
 
Coconut is mena tto be good used to wash my horses main in coconut shampoo and if you can get coconut milk / oil to leave on it promotes growth, grew back fine
 
H also gets a slightly bald bit where his neck cover rubs him, i did start using a lycra hood which did help but then it started riding up and covering his eyes,poor boy, so stopped using it but i am thinking of attaching a lycra piece onto the neck cover itself so hopefully that will help. last year his mane grew back no prob once i started leaving the neck cover off and his coat came through, i just pulled the rest quite short so it doesn;t look too odd!
 
Have you tried using baby oil to prevent the area from rubbing? My old pony had dreadful sweetitch, which I tried all the usual stuff for, but in the end a liberal daily daubing with baby oil did the trick, as everything just slips over it.

I think Camrosa says it promotes hair growth but I've never tried it.

Its definatly not sweetitch and shes not the one rubbing it... i try and keep her mane washed at least once a month to keep ontop of dirt (shes grey!)

Its like, when the mane is pressed flat for over a certian amount of time the hair folicles die... it literally comes out in handfulls!

p.s. i have now removed the duvet... but heard it will be COLD tonight, so may have to put it on! (Hate to think she may get cold!!)
 
As i say ive never tryed it but my friend swears on it
its worth ago .Mega tec you can look up on the internet
 
You will find that Farriers Formula, which is sold as a hoof supplement, will make the mane and tail grow.
