At Leahurst’s equine hospital, surgeon Debbie Archer is coming to the end of her shift when all of a sudden an emergency is rushed in. Millie, a family’s pet horse, is suffering a potentially life-threatening condition called colic. A quick examination tells Debbie that Millie is in grave danger. If they’re going to save her life, there’s no time to lose – Millie needs immediate surgery to unblock her gut

It was really good, I lost a much loved mare to colic a couple of years ago & lost another much loved mare to a field accident about a month ago so I found it really moving - so glad she pulled through.

Didn't think much of the horrible, spitting alpca though, I didn't reliase it was poo that they spat, gone right off them now.

I caught the lst half hour of it but is now on series link so I wont miss another, next week's looks a bit ooo err with the mare having trouble foaling and a vet gets chucked across straight into the mares stomach poor things....

Hope all ends well with that one.

I love programmes like this such special people that help our animals

I was crying with laughter at the alpacas! (Wouldn't want one though! The poor owner getting covered in poo...)
Excellent programme

Loved it, so good to see Rolf back on TV with animals, I grew up watching Animal Hospital and have missed it eversince! Last nights has put me off Alpaca's, didn't realise they spat poo! I wonder if Llama's and Camels are the same?! So glad the horse was making a good recovery after her colic surgery, couldn't believe how bloated her guts were and then came the Tapeworm!! It always astounds me watching intestinal surgery, I always wonder how they put it all back in as well as in the right place/order! Looking forward to next weeks, I also agree that it's great to have an hours programme as you get more detail and follow ups :)

It bought back memories of working as an equine operating theatre nurse at Liphook for three years! So pleased it wasn't smellivision when they were operating on the colic. Very pleased I diagnosed the problem before the surgeon said it :D We used to place bets on the cause before we began the surgery and I was pretty good at getting it right!

I thought it was excellent as unlike a half hour prog, even tho there were ad breaks and chopping around from story to story you did actually get a really thorough in depth view of the whole process of the colic surgery, guts and all. Excellent.

Thanks for posting the link to watch it online. that made fascinating if gruesome watching. The vet manually sucking on the stomach pipe before the op, eurgh. The size of the distended small intestine compared to normal intestine.

Yes I was glad it wasn't smellavision too. The stuff must absolutely stink.

How on earth do they manage to tuck all the intestines back into the body in the right order without accidentally kinking it when there's so much of it. Pretty amazing.

I hope the mare continued to make a good recovery.
