Likewise, my horses don't have any shade untill 6pm or so. Could you not turn her out at night while the weather is hot and stand her in during the day? I occasionally do this with my horses but their stables get the full sun from about midday , so don't at the mo.

Both mine have lightweight fly rugs on and masks and plenty of water. I was suprised to see that they seemed ok today allthough I did give my mare a good bath which she seemed to appreciate.

Horses are designed to cope with the heat better than we give them credit for. It's probably the flies that are more of a problem than the lack of shade/

She is happy as long as her friend is out, who is only out during the day (can't change that) she wears a fly mask and obviously has plenty of water just worry that she will get too hot as is getting on a bit now!

I let my girl stay out last night (which she was very happy about) and stabled her today, but when I went to turn her out at 4.30 she was dripping with sweat. Like you she has no shelter at all in her paddock but I can't leave her in a hot stable again. Hard to know what to do for the best. At least if they are out they have the benefit of a bit of a breeze which wouldn't be the case in a hot, airless stable.

I have the same problem. No shade in the field. Her stable is in a big american barn but unfortunately her stable is south facing and the barn, although big and airy, it has seethrough window pannels in the roof so the sun shines through and heats the barn up and it particularly shines on her side of stables. It is sooo hot especially with a lack of wind. She comes in about 11am and goes back out about 7pm at the moment. Always hose her down before she goes back out - most of the time she is sweaty from exercising too.

Don't worry. Horses can stand quite a lot of heat. My two lived outside 24/7 in temperatures that averaged 25 degrees much of the time and in summer in excess of 40 degrees. They are both bays, so not very heat reflective either. I would add this was not my choice but where they used to live at the RS. In the stables they were eaten alive by flies so it was better for them to be outside.

Now we live in the north the pine trees attract all sorts of bitey nasties so again, they are in a field with no shade but they are not being bitten to death either. They also come in at night here and if we are late bringing them in FB stands at the gate and shouts for us!!

You could put up a pole barn. Telegraph poles bashed in, supports all round and a basic roof on top. Check with the council, but often no sides=no planning permission.

As others have suggested - just swap her and her field mates around. It's not so much the heat that worries them, but the flies. And that coupled with the heat can be a problem.

Mine is in by around 7.00am and are going back out at about 8.00pm.
