no wonder horsey people get a bad name

My son started getting comments last year about getting to big for his 13.1 NF. He is 14 yrs old and about 5ft 4 now. He is starting to look a bit big but he is very lightweight and the pony is well built so no weight issue. He loves that pony that he had as an unbroken 3 year old and doesnt want to move on. An instructor said to him "do you have an aversion to riding horses then ?".
He showed the rest what he could do during that lesson.
We went clear round jumping and there were a couple of ladies on their big youngsters, they had fence after fence down and bounced all over the place. Midnight jumped everything with fences up to 3ft9 . I had to put the jumps down to half the height for them. We had a good laugh with the other riders and they were very complimentary about our little lad and the owners son tried to buy him from us:D We said he will never be for sale. We might one day need to find a smaller rider but he is with us for life.

it happens the other way too, i was asked by someone why i had a 17hh horse when i didn't need one that big!! I'm 5'6'' roughly and weigh about 10st so average size, i just laughed and said i don't but then again i don't need 2 horses either but i have got 2;)

in answer to your question, the lady works part time and as she is physically capable to compete and go hunting, she should manage to even brush her horse or 'pop in' just to say hello.

I broke in a tb for someone not long ago and i was hacking him out and got told the horse was far to big for me and a 'little girl' like me couldnt handle a horse so big. I laughed and told them it wasnt my horse and that infact his owner was smaller than me and competed locally and had no trouble at all with any of her tbs.

i find it annoying that horsey people get a bad name on the roads. which is one of the comments i made in my original post. My partner for one is a person who thinks all (but me of course) are stuck up on the road (but then he hasnt seen me ride) i have spent 2 years convincing him that not every rider on the road is like that.

for example i say thankyou to every driver and smile, i talk to lorry drivers when they stop and to cyclists and walkers. the only time i get 'road rage' is when a car gets too close, goes passed without slowing down or overtakes on a corner or hill and has to pull in when a car comes and nearly takes me out.

Thankfully all my horses are pretty level headed but that not the point. :) it also annoys me when people dont give enough room for cyclists and walkers.

You'll often see my partner out doing the humping and lumping around my three, you'll often see him out brushing and getting them ready and me just riding.. I'm physically capable of it too!

Because he wants to.

I think you're being just as judgemental as you're accusing this lady of being.

And you probably don't tell people who've stopped to talk to you to "bugger off" as the OP apparently did!

My husband can be found helping out with (aka doing) loads of stable duties. I ride, he doesn't and has no wish to but we enjoy time together and if I'm out doing the horses he oftens comes to help.

LOL no, I'd be chuffed to bits if someone stopped to talk to me mind :)

You could always consider that maybe the woman was complimenting you in a way, saying that you're a good rider and you could move up the grades (which to a lot of people goes hand in hand with bigger horses..?) maybe I dunno, just looking on the bright side..
