I was thinking yesterday about how different people handle their horses and how they ride their own might make another go totally different. I know if my friends offer to muck out, there is only one than can make the bed quite big enough. There are only about three (my auntie and granda included) who ride my horse and get him working nicely and have him relaxed. It isn't that the others are bad at what they do, but they just seem to do things differently.

Does anyone else think that nobody rides/takes care of their horse quite as well, or probably quite like (I think it says what I mean better!) you do yourself? Or am I just hard to please

Im the same, Im very fussy its nice people do it for you I dont complain but I do know what you mean, Plus now Ive got such a big horse I wont be letting just anyone near him. I just like to do things myself its easier. Ive been told im possesive of my horse or anything like that lol. Ooh well I dont let anyone else on ben as I like to ride him. Have let me friend on him but as im in the middle of getting him ready for shows I dont want him being rode differently.

Some people will say its better someone else gets on him but I like the way hes going and dont want it any different.

No hate other people mucking out my bed (think I might have a bit of COD about it though!!). Only about 3 other people ride my horse, there is someone who gets her going lovely and schools her for me when I'm working and can't ride. Apart from that I let a couple of friends ride her very occasionally, she goes like a drain for them, but they don't upset her.

The riding doesn't bother me, several people ride my horses, but none of them in a very different style...but the handling and yard stuff!
I have a system for doing things, I do it the same way every day..other people help because I have sharers so consequently we each do things differently. It isn't about there being one right way, and I am sure we all wind each other up, but I am I the only person who forgets stuff if it isn't exactly as I left it or done in exactly the same way daily?

Pickles on working livery and on full livery monday-friday, so I have no choice but other people mucking out and riding him! allthough have to admit people in lessons are not terribly good on him, the only person apart from me who really gets the best from pickle is my dad and thats mainly because pickle is the only horse he has ridden in the last 2 years!

QR - I get like this. I cannot tolerate anyone else apart from my mum mucking out James or laying his bed. Even down to how the brushes are put back in the grooming box can drive me mad!

There are only two people that I let ride my horse, both are very quite but firm in what they want him to do.

I think I'm naturally obsessive about everything to do with my horses but its just because I love them so much.......either that or I'm a total loon!

I pretty much always do my horse myself. But am not overly picky in comparison to some!
So when my horse went on full livery for a month he was done far better than I would do him .... he thought he'd gone to heaven

he got groomed daily, didn't live in his outdoor rugs 24h, got 4 feeds a day !

Now he is back to slumming it

I do everything myself, if anyone else does it I just get frustrated and take over anyway

. When I broke my leg me and my mum had so many arguements because I was so annoyed that I couldn't just show her what I wanted her to do. I remember clipping his feathers while my mum held me from falling over, then almost passing out from the pain of having my leg bent (not to mention that if he'd moved a muscle I would have fallen), just because she wasn't clipping it how I liked it. Crazy really

I don't mind people helping out as long as I am there and can supervise! But there is someone who keeps slipping my horse extra feed and treats which I don't like at all. Grrr!! :-(

I really don't mind who or how my bed is done as long as it gets done. My dad is looking after my horse anyway while I am university and although he is the worlds worst bed maker I can't do anything about it. But hes getting my horse fit and paying for it so I honestly can not complain. When my sister had horses she would shout at both my dad and I because we didn't make the muck heap perfect.

I hate it when others muck out my neds bed for me! It is never quite right, but as I have a sharer for my horse I have had to get used to it!

As long as it is clean I don't mind too much (although I will always end up re-laying it just to make sure!!)

No they don't do they? We all have our habits and routines.

I don't mind others doing my horses. If there is a certain aspect (mad arab/bolshy QH) then I make sure my substitute is aware of that, and capable of coping, but otherwise, as long as everyone finishes up safe and the job is done, that's fine by me. I can always tidy up, set things right the next day. As long as no-one tidies up my tack room, that really throws me as I can never find anything!
No-one wants to ride mine, so that's not a problem

I have learn't to bite my tongue and be greatful for what ever help I get.....

I am fortunate that no - one wants to ride my horses as they are both ex-racers and people want "sensible" cobs!!

I guess at the end of the day there isn't a right or a wrong way there is just YOUR way
